Portsmouth are known for producing some good youth talent through their academy, who more often than not also get a chance to show their capabilities in the first-team.

Current examples of this are Ben Close and Jack Whatmough. Both players have come through the youth system and have since established themselves in the main squad.

At the age of 23, Close has already made over a century of appearances for Pompey, and has been one of the most notable success stories out of the academy in recent times.

Pompey fans will be hoping that there will be many more gifted youngsters that can make a name for themselves in years to come at Fratton Park.

Here, we take a look at two talented Pompey youngsters that have the potential to save the club a lot of money in the future...

Alex Bass

The 21-year-old has had his breakthrough season at Portsmouth this term, regularly starting games ahead of Craig MacGillivray in goal since the turn of the year.

Bass already looks like he is well suited to League One football, and has produced a number of excellent performances for Kenny Jackett's side.

He has had to bide his time to get this chance, but he has taken it with both hands, as MacGillivray has struggled to come back into the team.

Bass progressed through Portsmouth's youth categories, eventually making his first-team debut in 2016.

Haji Mnoga

The 17-year-old central defender is highly thought of at Pompey, signing an 18-month professional contract at the club in December.

Coming through the club's academy system, Mnoga has the accolade of representing England at under-17 level. He has also made two League One matchday squads this term, and featured for Pompey in the third round of the Leasing.com trophy against Walsall.

Although he has not been given many chances in the first-team as of yet, there is plenty of time for the centre-half to develop. Expect to see him involved more for Pompey next season.
