Birmingham City took a huge leap towards survival at the weekend with a hard fought victory over promotion hopefuls Sheffield United.

Despite going 1-0 down early, the fans really rallied and carried their players over the finish line with goals from Marc Roberts and Jacques Maghoma earning three points for Garry Monk's side.

And with Bolton Wanderers and Barnsley also losing, it was a vital three points which took the Blues one step closer to safety.

Birmingham moved above Bolton into 20th position and five points now separate them from Barnsley, although that could be cut tonight if they beat Nottingham Forest in their game in hand.

Either way, the worst case scenario is that Birmingham go into their last two games with a three point cushion over Bolton Wanderers.

Once safety is ensured, Monk will start to wield the axe on some of his players as he looks to revamp his squad.

Here are two players who are unlikely to ever put a Birmingham City shirt on again.

Birmingham can owe a lot of thanks to Tomasz Kuszczak for his part in their survival last season but this year, he has been replaced.

The former Poland international has had to settle for a back-up role with David Stockdale the preferred option between the sticks.

With one year left on his deal, the 36-year-old may look to leave St Andrew's so that he sees out his career in a playing role, rather than sitting on the bench as a deputy.

Jason Lowe was attracting Premier League interest in the summer but Birmingham snapped him up on a free transfer after he left Blackburn Rovers.

Blackburn fans warned Birmingham that he was an ineffective player and Lowe has not done much to convince them otherwise.

With just nine league games to his name this year, the 26-year-old is surely set to leave when his deal expires this summer.
