In the last 35 games Billy Sharp has scored, Sheffield United are unbeaten.

At any level, that is impressive. But in The Championship, dubbed 'the most competitive world in the league', that is an outstanding stat that cannot be ignored.

The 32-year-old striker is moving close to 200 appearances for the South Yorkshire club over a number of stints, and some Blades fans may have feared the worst when he was linked away from the club in the summer.

Despite this, the fan favourite at Bramall Lane stayed at his boyhood club and so far this season it is paying dividends.

So far this season, Chris Wilder's star man has bagged four goals in six outings. Next up for Sheffield United is Bristol City, where Sharp will look to add to his impressive start to the season.

Over the years we have learnt many things about Billy Sharp. We know that he is a loveable character on and off the pitch, and that he is a prolific goalscorer. But what about this season, have we learnt anything new?

Here, we take a look at two clear things we have learnt about the self-proclaimed 'fat lad from Sheffield' this season...

Sheffield United welcomed a few new signings through the doors this summer, many of them heralded as great additions, but no signing was as good as retaining the services of Billy Sharp.

League One outfit Sunderland were courting Sharp all summer and a deal looked set to happen.

However, Sharp turned down the move and opted to stay at Bramall Lane, much to the delight of the Blades supporters.

It is not just his goals that Wilder's side would have missed, but his leadership and experience are crucial to Sheffield United's successes, as many players admit that Sharp is pivotal in the dressing room, almost as a coach.

So far this season, Billy Sharp is proving that there is still life in him yet.

At the age of 32, many EFL pundits questioned whether Sharp still had enough in the tank to lead the Sheffield United line, especially as Wilder's side look to launch a promotion bid with their expansive 3-5-2 system, which relies on pacy off-the-ball movements and quick transitions.

However, Sharp is proving all critics wrong. Netting four goals so far, the Yorkshire-born striker looks set to have another talismanic-like goal-scoring campaign as he has his eyes firmly set on a play-off push.

It would be a fairytale ending for Sharp if his goals do propel Sheffield United to the top flight, although realistically this is a massive ask with the other clubs around them.
