There are two Championship sides in the hunt for Barnsley striker Keiffer Moore, according to a local football journalist.

Andy Giddings of BBC Sheffield reports that Moore is being chased by two Championship sides, although Rotherham United are not thought to be one of them.

Various reports have suggested that Rotherham want to bring Moore back to the club after his impressive spell on loan at the club last year.

The towering 6ft 5in centre forward hit 13 goals in 22 league games for the Millers on loan from Ipswich Town in the first half of last season.

He then moved to Barnsley on a permanent deal in the January transfer window, scoring four goals in 20 games for the Tykes as they were relegated.

Now he is being by a duo of second tier sides, although Barnsley are not willing to let him leave on the cheap.

Contrary to reports, Giddings believes there is no release clause in the 25-year-old's contract, meaning that Barnsley are not under pressure to sell him.

The Reds have already rejected one six-figure bid from an unnamed Championship side and it is unclear yet whether the interested parties will return with more offers.

The Verdict

Moore is big, strong and has proven his goal threat in League One so Barnsley will be desperate to keep him to spearhead their attack for next season.

This will be particularly challenging if Championship clubs start testing their resolve with higher bids.

But Moore is relatively young and has forged his career the hard way by working up through the non-league systems so he is only going to improve with more game time.
