Cardiff City narrowly lost to Bristol City yesterday afternoon as City captain, Josh Brownhill, scored the decisive goal to end Cardiff's unbeaten home record this season.

Cardiff attempted 16 shots on goal throughout the game and hit the woodwork three times during the match so Neil Warnock's side will feel hard done by to come away with nothing.

This result leaves Cardiff in 14th position on 21 points after picking up just one win in their last six fixtures, including a disappointing loss to rivals Swansea two weeks ago.

Despite their league position, Cardiff are only seven points off the playoff places so the upcoming international break may be welcomed by Warnock, who will be looking to turn around the Bluebirds' form in the coming weeks.

A number of players will be away on international duty for Cardiff this week and some will have a point to prove if they are to retain their place in Warnock's side.

Here are two players that need to prove themselves over the international break.

Gavin Whyte

23-year-old Northern Ireland international Gavin Whyte has been in and out of the starting 11 at Cardiff this season, but is yet to put together a complete run of form.

The right-winger has made 11 starting appearances for Cardiff and has shown glimpses of quality during these performances, particularly in the 3-0 win over QPR at the start of October where he provided an assist and contributed well with tackles and direct play when attacking.

Whyte's impact has declined recently and was particularly poor against Swansea, being dispossessed a number of times and completing 0 successful dribbles.

But he will be hoping to get minutes on the pitch for Northern Ireland this week in an attempt to showcase his talent on the international stage.

Leonardo Bacuna

Curaçao international Leonardo Bacuna has been an ever-present feature for Neil Warnock's Cardiff this season, making 13 appearances in 16 matches so far this season.

The 28-year-old defensive midfielder has struggled in recent fixtures after making a good start to the season.

He played particularly well in back to back fixtures against Hull and QPR at the end of September and start of October, contributing with two assists in these fixtures.

However, he was substituted after just 34 minutes two weeks later in the 1-1 home draw against Sheffield Wednesday due to fatigue rather than a tactical change.

Since then, Bacuna has played the full 90 minutes against Birmingham and Bristol City but he has been dispossessed five times and has a pass completion rate of around 60% for these fixtures.

Bacuna will be hoping to improve his form on international duty otherwise may find himself out of favour at Cardiff if he fails to improve.
