Burnley have made a decent start to the campaign and this has given them a strong platform to build on going into the next set of fixtures following the World Cup break.

Although some would argue that they were expected to be in the promotion mix anyway, the scale of their rebuild makes their start to the 2022/23 season even more impressive and you feel the Clarets will only improve with more time together on the training pitch.

Not only did quite a few players arrive at Turf Moor during the previous window, but lots of former key men left too including Nick Pope, Nathan Collins, Dwight McNeil and Maxwel Cornet.

With these sales in mind, Vincent Kompany should have a decent amount of money to spend during the January transfer window, something that could make the difference in the promotion race towards the end of the season.

However, there are those that will lose out on game time if further additions are made when the calendar year comes along, with some youngsters already missing out on regular game time during the early stages of this campaign.

And we have selected just two young players who could potentially benefit from a temporary spell away from Turf Moor when the January window opens.

CJ Egan-Riley

In fairness to Kompany, Egan-Riley has appeared for the Clarets this season but he's currently stuck behind Jordan Beyer and Taylor Harwood-Bellis in the pecking order with Charlie Taylor available as well.

Not only are those three at the Burnley manager's disposal - but also Luke McNally and Kevin Long when both are fit and there's always the chance for the Clarets to bring in another central defender.

With Kompany opting to play a back four, it makes sense for Egan-Riley to go out and get some game time as he looks to blossom into a better player.

A loan spell may not be essential considering he's only 19, but the youngster is getting to the stage of his career where he will want to be playing most weeks and a temporary spell away may be his only way of getting on the pitch regularly at this stage.

Learning his trade under a former central defender, who was world class for both Manchester City and Belgium, is a good opportunity for the defender. But game time could be crucial for him during the second half of this term.

Dara Costelloe

The Irishman looked set to be a key first-teamer after starting their first three league games of the season.

However, he has only made one further appearance in the second tier following that and this is one reason why it may be ideal for him to go out on loan and build on his early displays this season.

Summer signings Manuel Benson and Anass Zaroury have been extremely bright for the Clarets so far this season and this is why it would be difficult to see Costelloe forcing his way back in unless there's an injury crisis.

With that, Kompany should be looking to send him on loan, not just to boost his chances of being part of the Lancashire side's first team next season but also to boost his chances of being involved in the Republic of Ireland's youth setup for the foreseeable future.
