Blackpool are now just a few days away from their Championship season opener against Bristol City.

The Seasiders enjoyed an excellent 2021, which helped them from the bottom half of the table to the play-offs, before promotion was eventually confirmed at Wembley.

Nine players have arrived at Bloomfield Park already this summer, with Neil Critchley trying to best prepare his side for the rigours of Championship football.

With the season fast approaching and with the transfer window still in full flow, we take a look at 2 transfer situations that we expect to see play out in the next few weeks...

Adding a right-back

Leicester City right-back Mitch Clark was spending some time with the club on trial, however, the newly-promoted Championship club have opted not to sign the 22-year-old.

This is certainly a priority area for The Seasiders at present, with the club possessing no out-and-out right-backs as things stand.

Ollie Turton and Jordan Gabriel were both at the club last season, but the former joined divisional rivals Huddersfield Town earlier this summer.

Gabriel, who spent the season on loan from Nottingham Forest, has emerged as a target once again for The Tangerines. Blackpool have subsequently placed a bid for the 22-year-old's services, but Forest are hoping to sign another right-back before allowing Gabriel to leave.

Callum Connolly has filled in at right-back in pre-season and has looked a competent option, but Blackpool certainly need to secure another right-back at least.

An extra dimension up top

Jerry Yates and Ellis Simms formed an excellent partnership last season, with the former benefitting from the Everton loanee's physicality.

Whilst Gary Madine has proved to be a real nuisance up top in the past, he did not see enough minutes in League One to justify a regular starting spot next season.

Shayne Lavery has arrived and whilst he has displayed glimpses of excellence in pre-season, he tends to operate similarly to Yates.

If Blackpool were able to re-sign Simms, or another young striker who poses a physical threat whilst also possessing the ability to score goals, then The Seasiders could be a real force again.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Blackpool have reignited their interest in the Everton frontman. However, it remains to be seen whether he makes the move.
