Blackburn Rovers will head into the month-long break for the FIFA World Cup knowing a win over their bitter rivals Burnley on Sunday will see them in the top two of the Championship until football returns in December.

The Tony Mowbray era ended back in May after his five years of loyal service to the cause at Ewood Park, and in came the fresh face of iconic ex-Danish striker Jon Dahl Tomasson, who has certainly made an impression amongst supporters.

With more home-grown youth coming through than ever at the club, there is more of a connection than ever between the squad and the fanbase, but there is of course a few players who aren't getting too much game-time right now that could do with a loan move away for the rest of the season when the January transfer window opens.

Let's look at two individuals who would potentially prosper if a temporary exit was sanctioned.

Dilan Markanday

Markanday arrived at Rovers in January with a burgeoning reputation thanks to his under-23's Premier League exploits for Tottenham Hotspur, where he scored 12 times in 14 outings before a permanent switch to the Championship.

The winger's first appearance for Blackburn though, which came against Hull, saw him tear his hamstring, ruling him out for over three months and as a result stalled his potential development.

There has been no place for him in Tomasson's plans either so far, with just four appearances on the bench in Championship fixtures but no actual minutes, with his only game-time coming in either the EFL Cup or for the under-21's.

To get some minutes into his legs at a more competitive level, a League One or Scottish Premiership switch at the turn of the year could be viable.

Ethan Walker

Once a player with high potential at Preston North End, things never quite worked out for Walker at Deepdale following loan spells with Altrincham, Stalybridge Celtic, Carlisle United and AFC Fylde.

Despite his release from the Lilywhites, Rovers have attempted to replicate what they did when they snapped up Tyrhys Dolan in a similar manner by acquiring the forward for their development squad this past summer.

Walker hasn't made the same impact as he's been exclusively with the under-21's, but it could be time for him to head back into the lower reaches of the EFL or even in the National League to give him an extra push.

It doesn't appear that the 20-year-old is close to a first-team berth, so it could be the perfect time to find minutes elsewhere to see how he copes.
