Blackburn Rovers will be looking to get back on track in the Championship this evening when they host Middlesbrough at Ewood Park.

Tony Mowbray's side produced an uncharacteristically poor performance against Hull City last week as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat in this particular fixture.

Currently third in the Championship standings, Blackburn will move into the automatic promotion places today if they pick up a draw against Boro.

Whilst Rovers will be confident in their ability to deliver the goods in this fixture, they cannot afford to underestimate Middlesbrough.

Boro have won four of their last five league games and are thriving under the guidance of Chris Wilder.

Here, we have decided to take a look at TWO Blackburn selection dilemmas Mowbray is facing ahead of tonight's clash with Middlesbrough...

Should Daniel Butterworth be handed an opportunity to prove his worth in Ben Brereton Diaz's absence?

With Ben Brereton Diaz set to miss this fixture due to the fact that he has been called up by Chile to feature in their upcoming World Cup qualifying games, it will be interesting to see who is tasked with leading the line for Blackburn tonight.

If Sam Gallagher features once again in a right-wing position for Rovers, Daniel Butterworth may be handed the chance to showcase his talent by Mowbray in a central role.

The striker has only made nine appearances for Blackburn in the Championship this season and has yet to score a goal at this level.

By breaking his duck against Boro, Butterworth could potentially help his side secure all three points in-front of their supporters.

Could Mowbray benefit from turning to Daniel Ayala for inspiration in this fixture?

In order to have the best chance of securing a positive result in this clash, Mowbray may need to turn to Daniel Ayala for inspiration.

Whilst Darragh Lenihan and Scott Wharton are expected to feature against Boro, Ayala could be brought in as a replacement for Jan Paul van Hecke who recorded a relatively underwhelming WhoScored match rating of 6.56 against Hull last week.

When you consider that Ayala has played 249 games at this level during his career, he clearly knows exactly what it takes to compete in the Championship.

By using his wealth of experience to his advantage this evening by producing an assured performance at Ewood Park, the 31-year-old could potentially keep his place in Blackburn's side for the foreseeable future.
