Blackburn Rovers will be looking to make some improvement to their squad this January.

If the club is going to fight for automatic promotion then some reinforcements may be looked at.

However, there are some big clubs circling around some of their important players. It’s a pivotal time of the season for Tony Mowbray’s side as they try to strike a balance between sales and transfer targets.

Looking ahead to what the January transfer window has in store, here are two players who could be heading for the exit from Ewood Park this month…

Ben Brereton-Diaz

The high flying striker has scored 20-goals for the Rovers this season. However, his fine performances have piqued the interest of Premier League clubs, such as Newcastle United.

The Chilean striker could command a substantial fee for the club, which would allow them to dip right back into the market for any potential replacements.

However, his performances could also be key in helping Blackburn fight for promotion in the second half of the season, which gives Mowbray and the board a lot to think about if any teams come knocking on the door with some offers.

The Irish defender is out of contract at the end of the season and Blackburn Rovers might consider selling him now before losing him on a free come the end of the season.

Lancs Live reported that Blackburn are interested in John Souttar as a potential replacement if Lenihan is to leave. However, the club have reservations over his recent injury record.

Lenihan has been an important player at the back for Mowbray’s side, but this contract stand-off situation may force the club’s hand to accept any offers that come their way.
