2 big transfer decisions that Mark Warburton at QPR could need to make in the next few weeks

Queens Park Rangers have enjoyed a good season so far, with Mark Warburton’s side currently in the play-off places.

With the two having stuttered in recent weeks, the R’s know that if they win their games in hand they could be in the mix for automatic promotion.

However, as is the case most years, the January window will be crucial to all of those in the promotion hunt. Like most managers, Warburton will want to strengthen his squad, as well keeping the key men at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

And, here we look at TWO big transfer decisions facing the R’s boss as the opening of the window looms…

Whether to replace the AFCON players

The major concern for all connected to QPR will be losing Seny Dieng and Ilias Chair to the African Cup of Nations.

Dieng is the number one keeper and Chair is the chief creative threat for the R’s, so there’s no denying their importance. With that in mind, you would think they need to be replaced, even if it’s only with loan players.

But, it can be hard convincing individuals to join who know they might not be playing when the key men return. So, it will be interesting to see if Warburton tries to get through the period without replacing the pair, and Osman Kakay who could be off.

Have any of these 30 ex-QPR players ever played abroad?

Finding the right centre-back

The key area to strengthen in the New Year has to be a centre-back, with Warburton already acknowledging that.

Nevertheless, it’s crucial that the boss finds the right player to make an instant impact given the R’s lack of depth and injury concerns in that department.

You would imagine most of the budget and focus is going on bringing in a centre-back, so Warburton and the recruitment team have to get it right.
