Sheffield Wednesday require major changes in the new year if the Owls are to claw back the ever-growing gap between themselves and the playoff pack.

Carlos Carvalhal’s men have been in poor form of late, with a succession of draws limiting the club’s progress up the table.

The Portuguese boss has been unlucky with injuries, with Fernando Forestieri and George Boyd ruled out for the majority of the campaign so far.

The pair are set to return in the coming weeks, and will almost feel like new signings to the Hillsborough side when they are back in action in South Yorkshire.

Reinforcements are needed however, with Wolves’ Ben Marshall linked with a switch to Hillsborough.

However Wolves may prove reluctant to sell given their title push, and Carvalhal may be left disappointed in his pursuit of the player.

With that in mind, the boss should instead turn his attentions to this pair…

Erhun Oztumer

How a Championship club didn’t give this man a chance in the summer is beyond me.

The London-born midfielder was sensational for League One Walsall last season, and has continued his fine form into the new campaign, notching an impressive eight goals and three assists already this term.

Oztumer is a creative force with an eye for goal, something the Owls have seriously lacked this season, and Carvalhal should seriously consider taking a punt on the 26-year-old.

Able to play out wide, or behind a striker, introducing the player of Turkish descent to the side will provide the team with a new lease of life, and Oztumer has the ability to step up to the higher level.

Josh Morris

Another man unlucky not to be playing in the second tier this season, Morris has also continued to impress in League One following a miraculous season with Scunthorpe last season.

The 26-year-old inspired the Iron to a playoff spot where they suffered a disappointing defeat to eventual winners Millwall, and Morris was touted with moves to the higher level.

Nothing materialised, but with the playmaker continuing his form this term with seven goals and four assists already, it is time for Carvalhal to take note of the player’s talents.

A move to a club just up the road from his current side may also appeal to Morris, who will be well aware of the potential this Sheffield Wednesday side has.

Coaches focus too much upon foreign imports and Premier League rejects when there exists a plethora of top talent in the lower divisions, and it is time for Carvalhal to offer Morris the chance to prove that he is a top-end Championship player.

Wednesday fans, would you take a punt on the prolific League One pair? Have your say below...
