Reading boss Paul Clement is coming under increasing pressure following the club's poor start to the season, with the Royals only outside the bottom three on goal difference.

The former Derby manager replaced Jaap Stam towards the end of last season and did well initially, keeping the side up on the final day.

However, after a summer of change, with Clement bringing in several new faces, things haven't gone as planned.

And, according to journalist Alan Nixon, he is under pressure with Phil Parkinson a leading candidate to replace Clement if they do sack him.

That would be a popular choice with fans as the Bolton boss is a fans favourite at Reading having spent 11 years with the club as a player.

As well as that, he has done a fine job with the Trotters despite having very limited resources.

However, here we look at TWO alternatives the Royals should consider instead of Parkinson...

This would be an ambitious move but the former Sheffield Wednesday man wants to work in England again and could be tempted by the challenge at the Madejski Stadium.

In the short-term, he is a tactically sound manager who would organise the side and make them hard to beat in their relegation battle.

Meanwhile, over a longer period he has shown he can be successful with his work at Hillsborough and could take the club up the table.

Another option for Reading would be to look in the lower leagues and Luton's Jones is a standout candidate.

He has done superbly well with the Hatters, creating an exciting side that won promotion to League One and they're looking for a second promotion in a row now.

Appointing Jones would be a risk but he could be exactly what the Berkshire side need after a poor few years.
