Nottingham Forest have showed signs of exceptional play this season, but have failed to backup top-quality performances with a consistent run of form.

The Reds have won back-to-back games just once this season, with the club’s away form severely limiting Mark Warburton’s side’s progression up the table.

While Forest have racked up the most home wins in the Championship this calendar year, their away form has been nothing short of woeful.

Some have blamed the inexperience of this young Forest side, which primarily consists of academy graduates.

Hibernian midfielder John McGinn has been linked to add a little more experience and bite to the midfield at The City Ground, but the 23-year-old is as inexperienced at this level as the rest of Forest’s young guns.

With that in mind, Warburton should target deals for this pair instead…

Maikel Kieftenbeld

Local rivals Derby County almost secured a deal for the Dutchman in the summer only to submit the paperwork too late for the switch to go through, and Forest should look to take advantage of the Rams’ mistake.

Kieftenbeld has impressed since joining Birmingham from Groningen in 2015, and would represent an excellent, experienced addition to the midfield at The City Ground.

The 27-year-old will remain keen to depart St Andrew’s this summer, and if Derby fail to renew their interest, then a switch to Forest could certainly appeal.

The Reds may not be ready to challenge for promotion this season due to their inexperience, but a couple of solid additions in the new year and in the summer could transform the club into contenders.

There is an exciting project at Forest, and Kieftenbeld should be the latest man to join Warburton’s revolution.

Beram Kayal

Appearing just once for Brighton this season following their promotion to the Premier League, it appears Kayal’s career at the AMEX is over.

The Israeli international is a fantastic player who impressed at Celtic before moving to the south coast, with his form in Glasgow seeing him linked with Manchester United at one stage.

The 29-year-old has almost eight years experience in the British game, and Warburton will be keen to add a player of Kayal’s quality to his squad.

The player could be ready for his next adventure, and if Warburton can convince him of his ambitions, then there is no reason why he would turn down a move to the East Midlands.

Forest’s young guns could learn a lot from the midfielder.
