Leeds United have recovered from a difficult slump in form, but manager Thomas Christiansen will remain keen to bolster his squad in the new year as the Whites chase down a place in the top-six.

Several areas have been highlighted for improvement, with current options at the Dane’s disposal failing to live up the expectations.

A new forward is certainly needed following the failures of the likes of Jay-Roy Grot and Pierre-Michel Lasogga, and a new left-sided defender will be high on Christiansen’s Christmas wishlist.

Swiss Gaetano Berardi has occupied the role for the majority of the campaign, but it is clear that a more naturally left-sided player is required to ensure the position is solidified, with Christiansen linked to Rangers Declan John in recent days.

However it remains to be seen whether the player can cut it at this level having been loaned to the Gers from Cardiff, and Christiansen should perhaps consider these alternative options…

Amari’i Bell

The Fleetwood man has consistently impressed for the Trawlermen since joining the club in 2015 from Birmingham City, and could be ready to step up to the Championship in the new year.

Uwe Rosler’s men are punching way above their weight in the third tier, and were unlucky not to achieve their own elevation to the second tier last season after falling to defeat in the playoffs at the hand of Bradford City.

At just 23-years-old, Bell is yet to reach his peak, and if the move were to work out, the defender could be the first-choice full-back at the club for the next seven years.

Bell is worth a punt, but Rosler is likely to play hardball with his former club over the defender.

Mitchell Dijks

Dijks was sensational for Norwich City last season whilst on-loan at this level, and the Canaries only failed to secure the player to a permanent contract after being priced out of a deal by Dijks' parent club, Ajax.

The Dutchman has made just six Eredivisie appearances for the Dutch giants and has appeared for the reserve side in Amsterdam, and could be growing tired of limited opportunities at the Amsterdam Arena.

Ajax may be willing to accept a cash offer for the 24-year-old in the new year, and Christiansen should try his luck with a cheeky offer.

Dijks is a fantastic player who could certainly make the full-back berth his own at Elland Road, and Christiansen should explore a deal for the player.
