Leeds fell to more away-day troubles last night with a 3-1 defeat to Preston extending their winless run on the road in 2018.

There were few positives for the Yorkshire side to take in the end, although there first-half performance was good and Kemar Roofe’s involvement was pleasing.

The former Oxford man was given a chance behind Caleb Ekuban and responded with the opener after great work from Kalvin Phillips.

Whilst it was a relatively straightforward finish from Roofe, it shows how he has attacking instincts and can be in the right place at the right time.

That was his tenth goal of the season in 32 games, so even though some fans aren’t keen on the 25-year old he has a very decent record at this level.

As our graphic shows, Roofe brought more to the team than just the goal too in his 68 minutes on the pitch, making two interceptions and winning two aerial duels.

He has received criticism in the past for his work-rate and desire and that suggests he was putting in more of a shift for the team last night which is good to see.

After a long injury lay-off, it was inevitable that he wouldn’t last the full 90 minutes but Roofe will expect to get another long run-out in the game against Aston Villa on Friday.

There are many players at Leeds United who are playing for their futures, with Roofe one of them, and performances like last night could see him become an important part of the squad next season.
