The Sky Bet Championship is certainly a division where a club’s fortunes can quickly change, as Middlesbrough are continuing to find out this season under Garry Monk.
Boro’s 2-0 victory over Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday has moved the Teessiders onto 20 points, and they now sit just three points outside the play-offs, with belief starting to return to the Riverside Stadium.
This week, Monk’s side are once again on the road, travelling to Hull City on Tuesday evening, where they are looking to make up ground on the top-six.
Here at FLW, we take a look at the starting XI Monk could select against Hull, starting with the goalkeeper and defence, where was are expecting to see an unchanged unit from the one that helped Boro to three points against Reading. Darren Randolph should continue in goal, behind a defence of Cyrus Christie, Daniel Ayala, Ben Gibson and Fabio Da Silva.
In midfield, we are expecting to see £2.7m-rated Adam Clayton return alongside Grant Leadbitter in a holding midfield role, with Jonny Howson pushing forward into a number 10 role, where Monk will hope he can have a creative influence at the KCOM Stadium. Marcus Tavernier is unlucky to drop out of our XI, with Martin Braithwaite moving out to the left and Stewart Downing continuing on the right.
Downing, Howson and Braithwaite will be tasked with supporting the lone striker, Britt Assombalonga, who scored his seventh goal of the Championship season against Reading.
