Brentford have been very active in the transfer market already this summer and they completed one of the most surprising deals of the window with the capture of Pontus Jansson from Leeds last night.

The Sweden international has proven himself to be one of the better defenders outside the Premier League over the past few years and was named in the Team of the Year for his performances last season.

However, he has signed for the Bees now and will be seen as a key player for the side moving forward.

Even though that will be great news for Brentford supporters, the reality is that Jansson's arrival alongside another centre-back in Ethan Pinnock means that Ezri Konsa is sure to depart.

The young centre-back enjoyed an outstanding first year at Griffin Park but the Bees have shown in the past they will let their better players leave if the right offer comes in and reports have suggested that Konsa could leave for £12m.

Whilst that would undoubtedly be a blow because of his talent and potential, our graphic shows that his loss will be more than covered by bringing in Jansson.

The 28-year-old is very dominant and his clearances and tackles per game highlight how he is old-school in the sense that he loves defending and will throw his body at anything to keep the ball out.

Yet, an underrated aspect of his game is his ability on the ball and it's where Konsa excels but the stats show there is not much between the duo at all.

That is vital for the Bees who have a clear style of play that requires every player to be comfortable in possession and Thomas Frank wants his side to build up play from the back and that won't be a problem for the ex-Malmo man.

When you combine that with Jansson's clear leadership skills, it seems as though the powerful former Leeds man is the exact type of personality that the Bees need to inspire them to promotion.

So, even if Konsa does leave the London outfit they have the perfect replacement already in the building and it is an exciting time for Brentford.
