The jury was out in the summer, wasn't it? Nobody knew whether Frank Lampard would make a good manager or a terrible one.

Whilst we're only just dipping our toes into the waters of the new season, there's every indication that he's going to be the former, a manager showing willingness to adapt as well as a keen eye for a player.

He's recently switched his approach a little, two early defeats looked to have Derby pegged as midtable also-rans, but he adjusted the tactics to suit the players. The result? Wins, four of them on the spin.

When you have good players, the key to winning matches is ensuring you're set up to accentuate their strengths. That is no more evident than in the case of Chelsea youngster Mason Mount. He's the name on everyone's lips, the exciting England Under-21 international, who looks to have a big future.

FLW looks at his impact on the Derby side in our latest spotlight piece:

Mount has played in all six of Derby's opening games, adding a vitality and verve to the midfield that certainly wasn't evident under Gary Rowett last season. Mind you, he should be effective, he was in the Eredivisie last season and that's the top-flight of Dutch football.

The Championship is as competitive as any division in Europe, but Mount has settled quickly. He scored on the opening night against Reading and added his second of the season against Preston at the end of August. He's got two in the league, but two more in the League Cup too.

He isn't a player who needs a lot of chances to score, he averages just two shots per game, which is impressive when you consider how many he's scored. He's about much more than goals, though, he drives forward from the middle of the park, moving phases of play into the final third.

He averages 2.2 key passes per game, so he's constantly looking to unlock defences, be it by his own doing or for someone else to take advantage. He's created a goal this season for a teammate too, adding an assist to his impressive numbers.

His overall passing accuracy is 70%, something that leaves room for improvement, but overall the 21-year-old has had a superb start to life in the Championship.

Derby County look all the better for it.
