Many observers may have thought that Bolton Wanderers sold their only chance of Championship survival when Gary Madine left for Cardiff on transfer deadline day.
However, Phil Parkinson’s side have regrouped and gone again which has taken them four points clear of the bottom three, into 19th place to give themselves more than a fighting chance of survival.
Beating Sunderland last Tuesday gave their survival bid a huge shot in the arm but Parkinson has assembled a more cohesive, mobile and technical attacking unit that means Bolton still have the firepower needed to survive.
One man who is central to that is former Newcastle man Sammy Ameobi and he’s the latest player we’ve put under our FLW spotlight to see how good his season has been so far…
His goalscoring return looks skinny but he was playing second fiddle to Madine for much of the campaign and has only stepped up in his absence.
With over 2 shots per game and 3 dribbles, he’s making things happen and that is the key for a struggling team, especially one that has lost its top scorer mid-season.
Between Ameobi, Zach Clough and Adam Le Fondre, it is a more fluid attack now for Bolton – without a focal point but that should just about have enough creativity to stay up.
What do you make of Ameobi’s contribution? Let us know in the comments below…
