Sunderland’s preparations for the Sky Bet League One season are well underway.

Back-to-back relegations have meant it’s been a difficult few years for Sunderland, but things finally seem to be on the up.

Stewart Donald has completed his takeover of the club, with Jack Ross also appointed as the club’s new manager ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

Ross has arrived from St Mirren, with the task of guiding Sunderland in their first year in League One, as the Black Cats look to rise back through the footballing ladder.

One of Ross’ first tasks will be reshaping the playing squad he has inherited at the Stadium of Light, with Sunderland in the middle of a huge transfer window for the club.

There will be players on Ross’ radar already, with the transfer window in full swing as we enter June.

Sunderland have emerged as surprise contenders to sign Leadbitter this summer.

The Middlesbrough midfielder has fallen out of favour at the Riverside Stadium, and could be open to a move, particularly if he is granted a leading role Stadium of Light.

If Sunderland make a serious attempt to sign him, it could be on the cards.

Lonergan came close to joining Sunderland in January, but a move fell through.

The Leeds goalkeeper isn’t likely to be first choice next season, which could open the door for his exit this summer.

You’d imagine it’d be a cheap deal to do, which will appeal to Sunderland, who need a new goalkeeper.

Magennis worked with Ross at St Mirren and is reportedly on Sunderland’s radar.

The teenager has his best ahead of him and will command a decent transfer-fee.

If Ross looks to raid his former club, Magennis could be on his way to the Stadium of Light.
