Brentford are looking likely to be involved in the race for the Premier League this season as Dean Smith's side continue to defy the odds and upset far bigger clubs.

They're currently sixth in the table, just below the four breakaway sides but in a great position to cling on to their coat tails as the season developed. In Neal Maupay and Ollie Watkins they have an exciting, vibrant strike force with goals in them.

It isn't just those two who impress though, across the back they've dealt with the loss of John Egan nicely, Ezri Konsa and Chris Mepham both looking assured and capable.

They're currently the highest placed team in the Championship not to have spent time in the top flight, something they'll hope to correct this season.

There will be some casualties though, some players unlikely to get a game as the season winds on. Here are a couple of Brentford players we think will be sent out on loan in the January window.

The 19-year-old joined from West Brom Under 23 squad in the summer, but has only a couple of outings to his name.

With the form of the existing front two, it is likely Dean Smith will want him experiencing some senior football.

A League One loan seems likeliest, despite him scoring in the League Cup win at Southend. It might even make Southend a likely destination.

Sorensen is another 19-year old struggling to get a break at Griffin Park and he too is likely to spend time out on loan after Christmas.

He's another who would benefit not only from first-team football, but from trying his luck in the division below.

He joined from Danish side AC Horsens but has only appeared once this season.
