After a hugely impressive campaign in League One last term, Charlton Athletic will be hoping for another positive season upon their return to the Sky Bet Championship.

The Addicks went under the radar for the majority of the campaign, going about their own business before pulling off two incredible results in the play-offs, ultimately sealing their promotion back into the second tier.

After confirming one of their biggest signings of the summer so far, with Lee Bowyer penning a contract extension at The Valley, the former Leeds midfielder has wasted no time in bolstering his squad ahead of the new season.

Ben Amos, Tom Lockyer and prolific Leyton Orient forward Macauley Bonne have all put pen to paper at the London club, and another addition that they have completed is Milton Keynes Dons attacker Chuks Aneke.

The 26-year-old played an influential role in helping Paul Tisdale's side win automatic promotion from League Two last season, and he adds competition to what is already an exciting Charlton front-line.

Here, we take a look at what Aneke may bring to Charlton next season...

Having been such an influential player for MK Dons last season, it is important to establish where Aneke performed at his best for Tisdale's side, and how this might make him fit in at The Valley.

MK tended to go with a 3-4-3 formation for most of the campaign, which saw Aneke either occupy the centre forward role or play on the right of an attacking trio.

This is interesting, as Charlton also tended to go with a similar formation towards the end of the season, so Aneke could well partner Lyle Taylor up top, or even sit behind in the number 10 role.

He is quite an unorthodox centre forward - he isn't one that will run in behind with his blistering pace, he will come short, collect the ball, and run forward with it. Defenders find it hard to dispossess him due to his sheer power and strength, typified after completing 158 successful dribbles.

Aneke made 41 appearances for Paul Tisdale's side last season, 38 of those coming in League Two. In all competitions, he found the net 19 times, and hit 126 shots on target which is an average of 3.07 per game.

As alluded to before, Aneke is able to drop back and collect the ball, and his link-up play was hugely impressive last season, picking accruing a pass success rate of 72.1%. He was a fantastic strike partner for Kieran Agard, who ended up as their top goalscorer with 21 goals, so partnering him up with Lyle Taylor could be a lethal concoction.

Due to his physical prowess and aerial presence, Aneke is also a threat in the air, winning 327 aerial duels last term, despite MK Dons being known for their slick, passing style of play.

Charlton like to play out from the back and attack down the middle, and having a focal point such as Aneke to aim for could prove to be influential next season.
