19 goals, 6 assists: Newcastle United must launch a bid, he would sort problems in front of goal

After some eye-catching performances earlier in the season, Bristol City know that they could struggle to keep hold of some of their key men if they fail to win promotion.

Unfortunately for Robins fans, that’s looking probable after a run of two wins in 12 games took them from automatic promotion contenders to currently sitting in seventh place.

Should they remain a second-tier side this season then Bobby Reid is one man who will have plenty of admirers away from Ashton Gate and here at FLW we were wondering whether Newcastle should be one.

The Magpies have seriously struggled for goals this season although they are still expected to survive. If they do, Rafa Benitez is going to overhaul his squad and forward additions are inevitable.

Given their budget, Newcastle may have to look for gems in the Championship and there are few better forwards than Reid.

As our graphic shows, the midfielder-turned-forward has a ruthless edge to his game, scoring 19 goals this season, with 17 in the league.

He has a lot of variety in his game too. Reid is capable of dropping deep to turn and run at defenders, as well as having the technique to play with his back to goal, as his passing stats show, whilst he has the pace and energy to run in behind.

The 25-year old showed those quality in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Manchester City where he won a penalty against John Stones and gave the England international a torrid time all night.

So, even though Reid isn’t the big-name signings that fans of the Tyneside club will want, he could be a very effective player at a higher level.
