In a relatively disappointing season for Derby County, one player has stood head and shoulders above the rest.

Matej Vydra has been sensational, scoring regularly and becoming a key figure in the Rams early season success. Things might not have panned out how they would like, but the Czech striker has surely done enough to prove his own worth.

With Pride Park unlikely to host top flight football next season, is Vydra ready for a return to the Premier League and if he is, should his former club Watford make a move?

Vydra has already spent three spells at Vicarage Road, twice joining on loan from Italian side Udinese either side of a spell at West Brom. After his third spell made him a Hornet on a permanent basis, the chances dried up and he ended up moving to Pride Park for a fee of around £8m, via a loan spell with Reading.

That seems to have been money well spent, this season the 25-year old has really come of age. In 36 outings he's grabbed 19 goals, proving himself to be a natural goal scorer and that rarest of commodities, the mythical '20 goal a season' striker. He's even weighed in with an assist or three, highlighting his worth as an all-round striker.

Meanwhile, at Vicarage Road, nobody is yet into double figures in the Premier League.

Vydra is fairly clinical, he averages 1.9 shots per game which is impressive when you consider he scores in virtually every other game. He's the target of some tough tackling too, his quality ensures he receives close attention from markers and is fouled, on average, 1.7 times per game.

He even comes up with a key pass every game too. He's a well-rounded striker, growing in confidence and getting better with experience.

There's little doubt in our mind that he's ready for a Premier League chance and whilst the top six might be a bit out of his reach, mid table Watford would be an excellent fit. He knows the fans and the club and he could once again bring them 20 league goals, just as he did in 2013.
