According to the Daily Star, Aston Villa’s Jonathan Kodjia is set to be fit for the start of the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship season.

Kodjia suffered a broken ankle is Villa’s penultimate game of the 2016/17 campaign – a 1-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers – and there were initial fears the Ivorian would miss the start of next season.

However, latest reports suggest that the 27-year old is on course to be fit for the start of the 2017/18 campaign, with his recovery from injury currently going well.

The news will be a major boost to Steve Bruce, who is looking to inspire Villa to fight for promotion in the Championship next season, after a disappointing 12-months back in the second-tier.

Villa stumbled to a 13th-placed finish, with Kodjia’s performance, in his debut season at Villa Park, one of very few highlights.

The striker, who cost Villa £15m, scored 19 league goals across the season and added one assist.

Kodjia was one of many high-profile signings made by Villa last summer, and Bruce has already set about adding to his squad this year, brining John Terry to Villa Park.

The former England captain has arrived in B6 on a free transfer, following his release from Chelsea.
