Dutchman Ryan Donk made 19 appearances on-loan at West Brom in the 2008/09 season.

Now aged 34, Donk joined on-loan from AZ Alkmaar whilst West Brom were in the Premier League. Tony Mowbray was the manager, and that season he steered the Baggies to a bottom-place finish.

Donk had just enjoyed two breakout seasons in the Eredivisie. He was a prolific member of the Dutch U21 side and there was a lot of hype around him, and West Brom looked to have made a keen loan signing.

But he and his teammates failed to live up to expectations that season. There was only three points separating the bottom four in the end, and soon after Mowbray left for Celtic.

Following his uneventful loan spell, Donk - who played predominantly as a defensive midfielder - returned to AZ, before finding himself a permanent move to Club Brugge.

With the Belgian side, Donk went on to make 172 appearance and score 15 goals in what was hugely prosperous time in his career. He became a favourite at Brugge, but after four seasons in Belgium he headed for Turkey.

Super Lig side Kasimpasa signed Donk for an undisclosed fee, and another successful three seasons for Donk saw him snapped up by Turkish giants Galatasaray in January 2016.

In five seasons at Galatasaray, Donk has made 90 appearances, scoring four goals. He spent the 2016/17 season on-loan at La Liga side Real Betis and endured a similarly tough spell there as he did during with West Brom, and today he plays a rotational role with Galatasaray.
