With three weeks to go until the first pre-season match, Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay needs to start thinking about what team to play.

On Friday 13th July - in an evening kick-off - the Owls travel to Sincil Bank to take on Lincoln City.

Their opponents finished in the play-offs in League Two before eventually losing to Exeter City in the semi-finals so they will not be a pushover.

However, Luhukay will be confident of picking up a win early in pre-season and more importantly, giving opportunities to a number of fringe players.

Sheffield Wednesday have been restricted by Financial Fair Play so far in this transfer window and will therefore be looking to some of their younger players to really stake a claim for a spot in the first-team this season.

Here is an experimental XI that Luhukay could field against Lincoln City.

Dawson played seven games in all competitions for Sheffield Wednesday last season and he is highly rated by the club.

The 22-year-old has had to bide his time behind Keiren Westwood and Joe Wildsmith in the pecking order so he should be given a chance in pre-season.

Baker made his first-team debut on the final day of last season and impressed.

Equally competent at centre-back or right-back, the 21-year-old could be set for more first-team chances next term.

Denmark youth international Nielsen played a handful of first-team games last season and he could get more chances next year.

The 20-year-old stands at a massive 6ft 7in so you will not be beating him in the air.

Former Everton defender Thorniley was one of the success stories from last season.

The 21-year-old played more than 10 games for the first-team after breaking into Luhukay's plans after January and he could be given a more senior role next year.

This could be the last chance for former Charlton full-back Fox.

The 24-year-old had a poor season and could well be offloaded if he does not impress in pre-season.

Academy captain Stobbs deserves to be given a chance to shine in pre-season.

The pacey and direct winger, 21, has five senior appearances to his name at Wednesday.

Academy prospect Clarke is a top young talent.

The 20-year-old is a box-to-box midfielder who now needs to make the step up from youth football to first-team football.

Dutch defensive midfielder Pelupessy arrived in January and played 17 league games for the Owls.

The 25-year-old now needs to prove that he can kick on and nail down his position in the first-team.

In an injury hit season, Lee only managed 15 games for the Owls and did not play after Christmas.

But he is now back in training and if the 30-year-old can stay fit through the whole of pre-season, it will be like a new signing for Luhukay.

Penney played two games on loan at Mansfield last season and has impressed for the Owls' youth sides.

Although the 20-year-old full-back-turned-winger has never made a first-team appearance for Wednesday, that could soon change if he impresses in pre-season.

Sheffield Wednesday are likely to sell a number of first-team strikers such as Jordan Rhodes, Steven Fletcher, Sam Winnall and Fernando Forestieri - possibly opening the door for 18-year-old Borukov.

With George Hirst set to leave, perhaps the Bulgaria youth international will be next in line for a first-team chance and he certainly has the physicality to adapt to senior football.
