Federico Macheda is a player that will always be remembered for his magnificent debut goal for Manchester United against Aston Villa and perhaps for the fact his career didn't hit the heights it should have.

Whilst that may be fair given the potential the Italian had as a youngster, he still went on to be successful elsewhere, with a loan spell at Birmingham where he was arguably at his best in the UK.

Various loan spells from the Red Devils followed after his breakthrough and in truth, Macheda barely did anything of note.

Yet, for whatever reason, things clicked for the Italian at St. Andrew's as he managed to score ten goals in 18 appearances during the 2013/14 campaign, which actually made his Blues' top scorer for the season.

Even though they would've loved to keep the forward, a permanent move didn't materialise and Macheda transferred to Cardiff City but he couldn't replicate the form he had shown in the West Midlands.

A few troubled years in Wales, and a poor spell on loan to Nottingham Forest, saw the ex-Lazio youngster make a move back to Italy and he linked up with Novara in Serie B.

After scoring seven goals in 21 games, it appeared as though he could be finding his form again but three goals in 30 the year after suggested that wasn't the case.

Despite those struggles, Greek giants Panathinaikos came calling in 2018 and that is where Macheda is currently playing his football now.

Do you know where these 15 ex-Birmingham City players are playing now?

And, he is doing pretty well for Pao, finishing as their top scorer last season and he is the joint-top scorer this term, although it should be noted that Panathinaikos are way behind rivals Olympiacos and PAOK in terms of competing for trophies.

Overall, Blues fans will be wondering what might have been if they had secured Macheda on a permanent deal after his loan spell and he must be thinking the same as he hasn't shown that form regularly since leaving the club.
