With the transfer window upon us, clubs across the country will be looking to strengthen in the coming months, and Leeds United will be no different.

Having gone so close to a long awaited return to the Premier League this year, the Elland Road side will be desperate to make the right additions in order to ensure they do not miss on promotion again next time around.

One area where Leeds appear keen to add to their squad is in attack, with Football Insider reporting that the club are interested in Southampton striker Sam Gallagher.

The 23-year-old does have previous experience in the second tier, having spent season long loans at both Blackburn and Birmingham earlier in his career.

So is Gallagher good enough for Leeds?

Here, Football League World puts the spotlight on Gallagher to find out.

Across those two seasons, Gallagher made 76 appearances for Blackburn and Birmingham, scoring 17 goals and registering one assist in that time.

By contrast, in this season alone, Leeds' first choice striker Kemar Roofe scored 15 times and assisted two more in 33 appearances, so it appears as though Gallagher would have to up his return somewhat significantly to force his way into contention at Elland Road.

Gallagher does however have the ability to cause trouble for defences, and while an average of just two shots per game isn't exactly enough to keep a goalkeeper busy, his average of 4.6 aerial duels won per game does underline both his physical presence and threat from set pieces.

There also has to be some concern about his pass success rate, with Gallagher completing around one in two of his passes.

While that is perhaps less of a concern than it would be if he was in a deeper role, you need to be technically good enough to thrive in a Bielsa team.

It should be noted that at both Blackburn and Birmingham, Gallagher was playing in sides operating in the bottom half of the division rather than a promotion challenger, whilst he was also younger and will feel he has improved after those spells.

Nevertheless, you still feel that he will have to up his game considerably should he want to make himself a regular at Elland Road.
