Daniel Stendel has guided Barnsley to fifth in the League One standings after 26 matches, and they are well positioned in the play-offs places with one eye on an automatic promotion push.

The Tykes are by no means out of the running for the top two in the third tier and could be a signing or two away from sustaining their form to look to trouble the likes of Sunderland and Luton Town who are battling it out for a place back in the Championship with Portsmouth.

Losing Brad Potts would have been a big blow their form shows no sign of slowing down as they continue their upward movement after a sticky patch just before Christmas.

If Stendel and Barnsley want to keep it up, then they need to get on the transfer train and get bodies into Oakwell to achieve their goal of an immediate return to the Championship.

With that said, here is the transfer business that needs to happen before the end of the month.

Greg Stewart incoming

The 28-year-old striker was recalled by Birmingham last week and is out of contract in the summer.

Stewart had scored eight goals in 15 appearances for Kilmarnock during a first-half-of-the-season loan north of the border.

He has experience in the second tier and SPFL and could well be an astute addition to the Tykes if he were to join.

The cost would be relatively cheap considering the length of time left on his current deal, and the financial problems the Championship side have at current.

Victor Adeboyejo has a loan away

And with the potential arrival of the Birmingham man, Victor Adeboyejo could benefit from a temporary move away from Oakwell.

Having signed a new deal just before Christmas, the 20-year-old has been prolific for the U23s this term but has found first-team opportunities hard to come by with the likes of Cauley Woodrow signing on a permanent deal and the form of Kieffer Moore.

Thirteen substitute appearances and two starts have been all the striker has been able to muster this term, and a move away could benefit him in the long term.
