Sunderland are preparing for life in League One but there will be more optimism around the club as Stewart Donald prepares to complete his takeover of the Wearside outfit.

His first task will be to appoint a new manager who will have the immediate aim of winning promotion back to the Championship.

However, to do that they will need to bring in a lot of new players at the Stadium of Light as the current squad is lacking in several areas.

As the biggest club in the division though, Sunderland should be able to attract a lot of good players for that level.

Here we look at four players they should bring in as soon as possible...

Signing a goalkeeper has to be a priority for the Black Cats and they could do with an experienced stopper.

Former Manchester United stopper Kuszczak should be available as he hasn't featured much for Birmingham this season and would be a quality operator in League One despite his age.

Sunderland have been linked with the Shrewsbury defender before and he is exactly what they need.

He has been outstanding in League One this season for Shrewsbury who have the second best defence in the division.

The Walsall attacking midfielder has enjoyed an outstanding season and hit 16 goals for Walsall.

That proves that he is one of the better players in the league and Sunderland need that creativity and spark in the final third.

The Fulham striker has been on loan at Bristol City this season but it hasn't really worked out.

A departure from Craven Cottage seems inevitable but it's hard to see a Championship side taking a chance on the England U21 striker.

However, he would be key at Sunderland and that could also benefit his career that has stalled in recent years.
