It’s sure to be an interesting transfer window for Dean Smith’s Aston Villa this month, and it could potentially decide their fate this season.

Villa are currently 10th in the Championship table and are just five points adrift of the play-off places heading into their game against Wigan Athletic this weekend.

Smith’s side are without a win in three games in all competitions after they were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Swansea in the FA Cup on Saturday, which gives Villa the chance to focus solely on their league campaign.

One player who the Villa boss will be praying he can keep hold of is Tammy Abraham who has been their main outlet for goals this season.

The on-loan Chelsea man has scored 16 goals already, and his good run of form has seen him linked with a move to Wolves.

But what transfer targets should Dean Smith have in mind this month to aid his side’s promotion push this season?

Find out here…

Maupay is the ideal replacement for Tammy Abraham if the striker departs Villa Park this month.

The Brentford forward already has 15 goals to his name this season and has been a rare bright spark in a disappointing season for the Bees.

He is a proven goalscorer and could certainly make the step up to the Premier League if Villa are to win promotion this year.

The Reading defender is another player that has been impressive for his side, despite their poor start this season.

Moore has been the standout player in the Reading team when he has featured this season, and without him, Reading would be facing almost certain relegation.

He would provide excellent competition to the likes of James Chester and Axel Tuanzebe for a starting spot in Smith’s side.

McCarthy is yet to make an appearance for Everton after making his comeback from a lengthy injury lay-off.

It’s unlikely that he’ll force his way into the starting XI anytime soon and he could be tempted by a loan move this month.

He has already been linked with a move to West Brom, so Dean Smith’s side should certainly be eyeing a deal to bring him to Villa Park to add to their already strong midfield options this season.
