With the Championship drawing to a close, many fans will be looking back at what impact each player has had at their club this season.

And, two of the better attacking midfielders in the league this season have been Norwich City's James Maddison and Leeds' Samuel Saiz.

The pair didn't manage to turn their sides into play-off contenders, however, their importance cannot be overlooked and here we compare the numbers from their campaigns.

As you can see, and probably expected, Maddison had a much bigger influence this season, establishing himself as one of the best attacking midfielders outside the Premier League.

His 14 goals and eight assists highlight just how productive he has been but he also offered a lot more than that, with key contributions in terms of passing and dribbling as well.

Whilst few could compete with Maddison in this division, Saiz stats aren't that bad, however they could easily have been better.

2018 has been a very tough year for the Spaniard on the pitch. He was given a six-game ban for spitting at a Newport player in an FA Cup loss and failed to recapture his stunning early season form after that - much like his team.

Yet, for his first season in England, Saiz has done very well and clearly has a lot to offer to the Whites side.

Now, the challenge for the former Huesca man is to find a consistency that would see him replicate what Maddison has done this season and to become one of the best players in the division.

If he does, the Premier League could come calling - as it will do for the talented Norwich man.
