Sheffield United enjoyed a fine first season back in the Championship even if it did end with disappointment as they failed to make the top six.

Despite the promising campaign, the future of manager Chris Wilder was uncertain due to issues at boardroom level but thankfully they seem to have been sorted now.

Therefore, Wilder is set to sign a new deal at Bramall Lane and will be looking to build a squad capable of challenging for a play-off spot.

The fact the boss is prepared to stay suggests he may be given backing in the transfer market and a potential sale of David Brooks could give the club more money to spend.

Here we look at four players who could join the Blades and make a real difference...

The Northern Ireland international was one of few positives for Sunderland towards the end of the season and may be available as they look to cut costs following relegation.

Whilst his injury record is a concern, there's no doubt that McNair has the ability to play in the Championship and would be a risk worth taking for Wilder.

Wilder has made a lot of his signings from the lower leagues and he knows the market very well.

And, Nolan has easily been one of the standout players in League One this season, impressing with his all-round game in midfield.

There will be competition for his signature but he would be a quality addition.

The Blades need a little bit more quality in the final third next season and Carey could be the man.

The Plymouth player scored 14 goals in the third tier and would bring a lot to the Sheffield United team with his ability on the ball.

If the funds are available, Hugill would be a great signing for the Blades.

Even though Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp chipped in with a lot of goals, Wilder felt his side should've been more clinical in front of goal.

The West Ham man is a good target man at this level and more importantly scores goals.
