West Ham United manager David Moyes has told Robert Snodgrass that he has a future at the club, according to The Mirror's Live Transfer Blog [Sunday 6th May, 09:06].

Snodgrass has starred on loan at Aston Villa this season, where he is currently preparing for the Sky Bet Championship play-offs, and the Villains have expressed a desire to make his move permanent.

However, their hopes of retaining the Scotsman have today been dealt a blow after West Ham boss Moyes told the player that he wants him to stay at The London Stadium.

The Hammers confirmed their place in next season's Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win at Leicester City yesterday and Moyes - who is out of contract at the end of the season - is already planning ahead to next term.

The former Everton, Manchester United and Sunderland boss wants to keep Snodgrass after the winger weighed in with seven goals and 14 assists this season in 39 matches.

The 30-year-old joined West Ham from Hull City in January 2017 but he failed to make much of an impact in East London as Slaven Bilic mainly used him as a substitute.

He was then shipped out on loan to Villa and his future at West Ham looked non-existent when the owners publicly criticised the Scotland international.

The Verdict

Whether Snodgrass wants to return to West Ham while David Sullivan and David Gold are still in charge is out of Moyes' control. It seemed at the time that the Hammers' owners burnt their bridges with the left-footed winger. But if West Ham demand a fee in excess of £10m to recoup what they paid for Snodgrass, Aston Villa are better off looking at younger, cheaper options anyway.
