Aapo Halme made the bold call in leaving Leeds United in the summer of 2019, and made the short journey to Barnsley on a permanent deal.

In a recent interview with the Yorkshire Post, Halme admitted that he doesn't have any regrets over moving to Barnsley, despite Leeds now challenging for promotion back into the Premier League this season.

"Every footballer wants to play week in, week out and I got the opportunity to play here and I am really happy and as a team, we have to stay in the league.

"Maybe I could have had more chances at Leeds. But then again, it is a big club and you have to be ready to play there (straightaway) as they are a club who are trying to get promoted to the Premier League.

"It was realistic to come here and I think that being at a massive club helped me when I came here."

In our latest FLW Spotlight, we look into Halme's statistics so far this season with Barnsley and look at whether he should regret moving to Gerhard Struber's side in the summer.

Halme has been hugely impressive when he has been involved for Barnsley this season, and he'll be hoping to get further minutes under his belt as this year's campaign progresses.

The young defender has already clocked up 2466 minutes in total for the Tykes in all competitions, and has shown that he can have an impact at both ends of the pitch, with three goals to his name.

He's been a busy man though, as Barnsley have often been on the back foot in games this season, with Halme making 180 interceptions so far this term, which is a statistic that is likely to increase as they head into the final ten games of the season.

The former Leeds man has won 166 defensive duels, and 133 aerial duels, and will be hoping he can build on that impressive statistic as the season goes on.

It does beg the question as to whether he would be as busy if he was playing regularly for Leeds United, as they often dominate teams in possession.

But Halme has shown that he is comfortable with the ball at his feet, and has been successful with 652 of the 869 passes he has attempted so far this season for the Tykes.

Halme won't have many regrets on leaving Leeds United as he would have known that he needed regular game time to further his development, as he wouldn't have been getting minutes with Marcelo Bielsa's side who are challenging for promotion.

He'll be hoping he can play his part in Barnsley's fight for survival this season, but it certainly seems as though it's going to go right down to the wire.
