Sheffield Wednesday got off to the perfect start under the guidance of new manager Garry Monk on Sunday as they secured a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town.

The 40-year-old will be determined to lead his Owls side to a top-six finish and thus replicate what former boss Carlos Carvalhal achieved during the 2015/16 season.

Carvalhal, who is now the manager of Portuguese side Rio Ave, decided to strengthen his squad ahead of this particular campaign by signing Ross Wallace following the winger's release from Burnley.

Initially joining the club on a one-year deal in July 2015 (via BBC Sport), the Scotsman soon became a mainstay in Wednesday's side as they launched a push for the play-offs in the Championship.

After helping the Owls secure a sixth place finish by providing 12 goal contributions in the second-tier, Wallace then scored in both legs of the club's play-off semi-final against Brighton & Hove Albion.

However, despite these heroics he was unable to inspire Wednesday to victory at Wembley Stadium as Hull City were promoted to the Premier League.

Whilst Wallace continued to impress during the 2016/17 campaign, the Owls would once again go on to suffer heartbreak in the play-offs.

The following season ended up being the winger's last at Hillsborough as the appointment of Jos Luhukay eventually resulted in him falling down Wednesday's pecking order.

So where is Wallace now?

After making 124 appearances for the Owls, Wallace decided to link up with Joey Barton last year at Fleetwood Town.

Since joining the Trawlermen, the winger has emerged as key player at Highbury Stadium with his impressive displays helping the club secure an 11th place finish in League One last season.

Having agreed new terms with Fleetwood last month (via BBC Sport), Wallace will now be looking to play a pivotal in launching a promotion push over the coming months.

Currently seventh in the League One standings, Barton's side will be aiming to extend their current unbeaten run to three games when they face Rochdale on Saturday.

If Fleetwood do indeed reach the second-tier for the first time in their history next May, Wallace may end up facing the Owls during the 2020/21 campaign.
