Attacker Andre Green is set to be recalled from his loan spell at Preston North End by his parent club Aston Villa in January, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

Green joined Preston on a season-long loan from the newly-promoted Premier League outfit during the summer transfer window, but has so far struggled to make an impact for Alex Neil's side, who head into the Christmas and New Year period third in the Championship table.

Despite that, reports have now emerged claiming that there are no fewer than four sides across Europe - including North End's second-tier rivals Brentford and German icons Stuttgart - who are interested in a permanent move for Green when the window reopens.

So has Green done enough to justify a longer-term move to one of those sides?

Here, we put the spotlight on the 21-year-old's performances for Preston in the Championship this season, in order to find out.

To begin with, it should be noted that with Green making just four league appearances for Preston this season, all of which have come from the bench, the attacker hasn't really been given a big chance to make any sort of impression, particularly when you consider that the role he is required to play will have been dictated by the state of the game at the time he was brought onto the pitch.

Even so, there are certainly elements of his return throughout the course of the campaign that do not look all that encouraging for Green.

With the 21-year-old yet to take a single shot in the league this season, it does not appear as though the forward has posed much of a direct attacking threat for opposition defences when he has been given the chance to do so.

Furthermore, with Green yet to assist a single shot for any of his temporary North End teammates, the attacker hasn't really been someone capable of creating chances, even when he is unable to take them himself.

That is something that will not be helped by the fact that Green has attempted just two crosses so far in the current campaign, highlighting the lack of supply he has really offered for Preston since his arrival in the summer.

Despite that, there are other aspects of his game so far this season that do seem to be more encouraging for Green, as he looks to prove that he is worthy of more regular first-team opportunities in the second half of the campaign, regardless of where he finds himself.

Having won 40% of his offensive duels so far this season, it certainly looks as though Green is still capable of causing trouble for Championship defences in 'one on one' situations when given the opportunity, with the fact that he has managed to enter into ten of those in just 113 minutes on the pitch highlighting his desire to get involved where possible.

Indeed, the fact that he has also made four progressive runs during his time on the pitch also implies that that attacking instinct remains, highlighting he still has the ability to get in those sort of positions from where he can do some significant damage, even if those chances have yet to fall for him in those areas of the pitch.

You could understand it therefore, if Green was to argue that had he been given more opportunities by Preston in the opening part of this season, he would have been able to familiarise himself with the setup of his new side, and establish a link with his new teammates in order to build some momentum and make the impact many will have expected him to.

It will be interesting now, to see if any of those clubs linked with the 21-year-old, will be willing to take that chance on him.
