Norwich City are looking like they are in a commanding position in the Championship table as they aim to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Daniel Farke’s side lead the table and have a decent gap over the teams chasing them, and it does look like they are on course to repeat their success of the 2018/19 campaign when they managed to secure the Championship title on their way to promotion.

The Canaries have been very strong at both ends of the pitch in recent weeks and they have been described as being the Manchester City of the Championship by Luton Town manager Nathan Jones. That perhaps encapsulates the style of play and the dominance they have been able to achieve over the last few months.

Even if Norwich do go on to earn promotion to the Premier League they might well face a battle to keep hold of one or two of their most influential performers. There are a number of players who are courting the attentions of other clubs and who could move on if their valuations are met in the summer potentially.

Departures then could well materialise, but can you remember any of these former less high profile Norwich players? You may have even forgot they ever had a spell at Carrow Road…

Once a rising star of Tottenham Hotspur’s youth academy Edwards is now playing in Portugal with Vitória de Guimarães where he has been since September 2019.

The attacker has managed to reignite his career in Portugal and he has become an important player for Vitória, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in 26 league appearances last term. While he has already fired in three goals in 21 appearances so far this campaign.

Edwards’ form has seen him be rewarded with a new contract which contains a release clause of around £50 million. That shows that he has gone some way to getting himself back on track and showing potential after leaving Tottenham.

The 22-year-old did spend time out on loan with Norwich in the second half of the 2017/18 campaign. However, it was an unsuccessful loan period for him with him making just a solitary appearance for the club coming off the bench in a 2-0 loss against Fulham.

He eventually returned to Tottenham earlier than expected in April, and it was just one move that did not come about at the right time.

Another player who had a fairly uninspiring spell with the Canaries is former Arsenal defender Ignasi Miguel. The Spaniard has managed to get his career going again having returned to the country of his birth after a difficult spell in England.

The 28-year-old currently plays for Leganes on loan from Getafe and he has had spells with the likes of Lugo, Malaga and Girona over the last few years. Miguel has never really managed to find a settled home and has not made more than 50 league appearances for a single one of the clubs he has played for in his career so far.

Norwich picked up the defender in the summer of 2014 with him going on to sign a three-year deal at Carrow Road. However, he was able to make just two appearances for the club in that 2014/15 season in the League Cup against Shrewsbury Town and in the FA Cup against Preston North End.

The defender nearly headed out on loan to Millwall at one stage, but remained with the Canaries as a bit-part player for the rest of that campaign before leaving in the summer of 2015.

Henry has managed to enjoy successful and lengthy spells with the likes of Millwall, Wolves and his current club Oxford United throughout his career so far and he has made around 100 appearances for those three clubs.

The 31-year-old has experienced a lot throughout his career and he has helped the likes of Millwall, Bolton Wanderers and Wolves earn promotion from League One. He will be hoping he might be able to do the same with Oxford before his time with them comes to an end.

The attacker started his career with Reading and was sent out on several loan spells for the Royals during his time with the club. Some of those proved to be successful like his time at Millwall.

However, he also spent time on loan with Norwich in the second half of the 2008/09 campaign. Despite the Canaries' struggles in the Championship that term though he could not make any real impact for them and made just three appearances.

Henry was as a result recalled by Reading early from his spell at Carrow Road. This was another loan move that did not work out.

Vokes has enjoyed a lot of success in his career, most of which came during his lengthy spell with Burnley where he made over 230 appearances and helped to fire the Clarets to two promotions to the Premier League.

The forward has also enjoyed success with his country scoring in the famous 3-1 win against Belgium in the quarter-finals of Euro 2016. Vokes is now more of a squad player at Stoke City after failing to really fully establish himself in their starting line-up after a big-money switch in January 2019.

The Welshman spent plenty of time out on loan from Wolves during his early career playing for the likes of Millwall, Brighton, Leeds United and Sheffield United. He also spent a little bit of time out on loan with Norwich in their 2010/11 promotion-winning campaign.

The forward arrived as an emergency loan in March 2011 and he went on to score one goal in four Championship appearances before he was recalled by Wolves after an injury to Kevin Doyle.

Butterfield has had a bit of a sporadic career with the midfielder having managed to enjoy some impressive periods of form at certain clubs, but also having failed to impress at others.

The midfielder is currently playing for Australian side Melbourne Victory after spending time with Luton Town in the Championship last term and helping them survive the drop. Butterfield started his career with Barnsley where he was an impressive performer in the Championship making over 80 appearances.

That led Norwich to make a move for him in the summer of 2012, with the Canaries hoping that he could become an important player for them in the Premier League. However, he struggled to force his way into the side ahead of a number of talented options in midfield.

He, therefore, made just two cup appearances for Norwich in the 2012/13 campaign, and he was sent out on loan spells to both Bolton Wanderers and Crystal Palace. Butterfield eventually left Carrow Road for Middlesbrough in 2013 and has since had spells with the likes of Huddersfield, Derby and Sheffield Wednesday.

Another largely forgotten former loan player at Norwich is Jos Hooiveld with the Dutch defender having spent a brief period out on loan with the Canaries during the 2014/15 campaign.

The 37-year-old has had a lengthy career that has taken in spells at several clubs and he is still playing in the US with Orange County SC. He has also taken in spells at Southampton, Celtic, FC Copenhagen, FC Twente and Millwall amongst others.

He enjoyed a four-year spell with Southampton between 2011 and 2015 and he helped the Saints earn promotion to the Premier League in the 2011/12 campaign. However, towards the end of his spell at St Mary’s he was a bit-part player and was sent out on loan to Norwich.

Hooiveld would go on to make just six appearances for the Canaries during his spell at Carrow Road and he ended up moving on loan to Millwall in January 2015 after failing to get himself a regular starting place for Norwich in the first half of the campaign.

A vastly experienced defender Zesh Rehman is still currently playing in the Hong Kong Premier League at the age of 37. He has enjoyed a well-traveled career but spent seven years in English football between 2003 and 2010 and also a brief spell with Gillingham in 2017.

He started his career with Fulham where he made 21 Premier League appearances in three seasons. During that time the defender spent time out on loan with Brighton in the 2003/04 campaign making 13 appearances for the Seagulls.

Rehman was also sent out on loan to Norwich in January 2006 as the Canaries looked to provide some competition for places in their defence. The defender went on to make five appearances for them and was unable to really fully establish himself in their starting line-up.

Upon his return to Fulham that summer he was allowed to leave for Queens Park Rangers and he went on to make 50 appearances for them during a three-year spell.

One player who might have forgot came through Norwich’s academy is George Francomb with the midfielder having gone on to enjoy a career in the lower reaches of the Football League with both AFC Wimbledon and now Crawley Town.

Francomb made his Football League debut for Norwich in a 1-0 win against Carlisle United in League One in 2009. The 29-year-old would go on to make another three appearances for the Canaries one more of which came in the league during their 2009/10 promotion-winning campaign.

He was not able to convince that he was ready for the step up to the Championship though and was instead sent out on loan spells to Barnet, Hibernian and AFC Wimbledon. He eventually departed the club in the summer of 2013 after being released from his contract at Carrow Road.

He has since enjoyed a lengthy permanent spell with Wimbledon where he made over 180 appearances and is now an important player for Crawley in League Two.

Another player you might have forgot ever spent time with Norwich is former Liverpool attacker Dani Pacheco. The Spaniard was never able to break through properly in English football but he has somewhat rebuilt his career in his native country.

Pacheco spent time out on loan with the Canaries during the second half of the 2010/11 campaign, arriving on loan until the end of the season in March. The attacker was able to make a decent impact for Norwich and set-up a goal for Grant Holt in a 6-0 route against Scunthorpe United on his debut for the club.

The 30-year-old also found the net in the famous 5-1 thrashing of rivals Ipswich Town. Overall he was able to make six appearances at Carrow Road during his loan spell there and he did play a role in helping them to earn promotion to the Premier League.

He has since gone on to have spells with the likes of Atletico Madrid, Malaga, Real Betis and Getafe and he is currently playing for Spanish second division outfit Logroñés.

Another player who you might probably have forgotten about is experienced goalkeeper Michael Theo, with the 40-year-old having spent most of his lengthy playing career in Australia.

The keeper though has had two largely uneventful spells in English football with both Blackpool in 2002/03 and with Norwich. Theo arrived at Carrow Road in the summer of 2009 and would go on to make just a solitary appearance for the club and that proved to be most disastrous of debuts.

He started the infamous opening day battering by Colchester United at the start of the 2009/10 campaign going on to concede seven goals, five of which were shipped before halftime. It was a game from which his career at the club would never recover.

The keeper’s contract was eventually terminated by the club in March 2010, and he went on to sign for Brisbane Roar where he did get his career back on track making over 150 appearances in an eight-year spell.

A final loan player you might have forgotten about at Norwich is former Newcastle United player Jonás Gutiérrez, who did enjoy a short period on loan at Carrow Road in 2014.

Gutiérrez remains a very popular figure at St James’ Park and he made a huge impact for them during his seven-year spell there between 2008 and 2015. He helped them earn promotion back to the Premier League in 2010 and re-establish themselves back in the top-flight the following years.

However, during the 2013/14 campaign, he was allowed to move to Norwich on loan in January, with him having seen his chances limited for Newcastle. He went on to make just four appearances though due to a calf injury and also the sacking of manager Chris Hughton.
