Middlesbrough have had some wonderful players over the years.

When you think back to the likes of Juninho, Fabrizio Ravenelli, Gaizka Mendieta and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink there's no doubt that the club have possessed some quality in their time.

That said, they've had some shockers as well.

Some signings just don't work out - that can be down to a number of factors but sometimes it's just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Middlesbrough have had plenty of players over the last decade who have gone on to have good careers elsewhere, but who are they?

Here are 11 players who you've probably forgotten ever played for the Teessiders.

The experienced defender had built up a wealth of experience playing for Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers before moving to Middlesbrough in the summer of 2015.

Baptiste had hoped to kick on and help the club to promotion but unfortunately his career got off to the worst possible start by suffering a double leg fracture in a pre-season friendly against York City.

After a lengthy recovery the centre-back was sent out on loan to Sheffield United, before heading off to Preston North End the following season before leaving for Queens Park Rangers in 2017.

Baptiste did manage one appearance for Middlesbrough but supporters could be forgiven forgetting his short-lived and injury-hit career at the Riverside Stadium.

The winger was one of the most talented players to come through Middlesbrough's impressive academy set-up.

Unfortunately, cracking the first team was a little bit more challenging for Jordan Jones.

Jones made one senior appearance for the Teessiders in an FA Cup clash with Hastings before spending time on loan with Hartlepool United and Cambridge United.

However it was a move to Scotland that ignited his career.

He spent three years playing for Kilmarnock before earning a big move to Rangers where he has been ever since.

While first team opportunities have been limited of late Jones is currently on loan with Sunderland and could be on the move again in the summer as he looks for regular first team football.

After thriving in his early career with Standard Liege the midfielder secured a big move to Middlesbrough in 2016.

Unfortunately for De Sart it proved to be a tricky task to break into the first team fold under Aitor Karanka with the club challenging for promotion and then taking on the challenge of retaining their status in the Premier League.

He did, however, manage to make three first team appearances for the club.

The central midfielder went on to join Derby County on loan before heading to Zulte Waregem on loan.

De Sart is now with Belgian side Kortrijk where he has been since leaving Middlesbrough in 2018.

The winger first came to prominence in England after moving to Manchester City from New York City.

As a young player his task was to build up experience in the EFL and Middlesbrough were the lucky club to secure his services on a short-term arrangement.

Unfortunately Harrison's time with the club wouldn't accurately represent the career that he'd go on to have.

The American was poor during his time at the Riverside Stadium and made just four appearances for the club, before heading back to the Etihad Stadium to seek out another loan move.

It would be this next switch that made Harrison with the winger spending the next three years as a key player with Leeds United - helping them into the Premier League and proving himself as a high-quality top flight player.

Isn't it typical that Middlesbrough didn't see that?

Another player who has gone on to enjoy a great career despite an underwhelming spell with Middlesbrough.

A product of Newcastle United's academy set-up the winger was sent on loan to the Riverside Stadium to aid his development at first team level.

Ameobi made nine appearances in total for the Teessiders but struggled to set the world alight as he went back to St James' Park before another couple of average loan spells.

It was only really when he moved to Bolton Wanderers on a permanent basis that his career ignited during a two-year spell before heading to Nottingham Forest.

Ameobi is still at the City Ground now and has established himself as a good player at Championship level.

Another player who headed to the Riverside Stadium on loan.

Regarded as one of Chelsea's top prospects the challenge was to turn Chalobah into a man by thrusting him into the EFL to develop his all-round game.

Spells with Watford and Nottingham Forest came first before he joined Middlesbrough on a six-month loan deal in January 2014.

The midfielder did manage to make 19 appearances for the Teessiders but for many it was largely forgettable time as the club battled to a mediocre mid-table position.

Of course he would go on to enjoy an excellent career in the Premier League and could be back in the top flight against next term if he can help Watford to secure an immediate return.

The full-back is now a fully fledged part of the Premier League but that wasn't always the way.

After coming through the ranks with Tottenham Fredericks was sent out on loan to Middlesbrough in the 2014-15 campaign as a way of getting some valuable first team football.

The right-back made 19 appearances for the club in a pretty average campaign for the Teessiders, and in truth supporters never really saw the best of the player.

Despite joining Bristol City in 2015 it was with Fulham where Fredericks really found his feet as one of the best wing-backs in the Championship as he helped the Cottagers to promotion in 2018.

It was then that he was offered the chance to join West Ham United - a club where he has thrived after almost three years at the London Stadium.

Another player who spent time on loan with Middlesbrough in 2014-15.

Blackman moved to the Riverside Stadium as a way of getting first team experience after developing with Chelsea but never really established himself as the club's first choice stopper.

In fact, the goalkeeper only made one appearance for the club so that's why most fans won't remember his time on Teesside.

Surprisingly Blackman is still registered with Chelsea but has spent plenty of time out on loan with clubs such as Sheffield United, Leeds United and Rotherham United where he's currently spending the season.

The 27-year-old is out of contract this summer, however, so it'll be interesting to see where he ends up.

But after building up a wealth of EFL experience I'm sure he won't be short of suitors.

There were plenty of names heading to Middlesbrough on loan in the early noughties so can be forgiven for not remembering all of them.

We go to that forgettable 2014-15 season once again for this one as Veljkovic headed to Teesside.

A youngster who was registered with Tottenham, the hope was that the technical midfielder could really kick on in the EFL and prove himself to be ready to thrive.

That didn't quite happen.

The Serbian made just four appearance for Aitor Karanka's side in his three-month loan spell before spending six months on loan with Charlton Athletic where things didn't go much better.

However in 2016 he completed a move to German side Werder Bremen where he is currently thriving in the first team.

Veljkovic has now been there for five years and looks like a complete player - something that Middlesbrough will surely try and claim some credit for...

The full-back looks like the real deal for Swansea City, but there's no doubt that they owe some credit to Middlesbrough.

Well, maybe not.

The Welsh full-back headed to the Riverside Stadium on loan due to the lack of first team opportunities with the Swans who were then competing in the Premier League.

Unfortunately his time at the club was short-lived after making just four first team appearances in the first half of the 2017-18 leading him to return to the Liberty Stadium.

Since then Roberts has gone from strength to strength and is now one of the best right-backs in the EFL and will be hoping to get another crack at the Premier League by securing promotion with Steve Cooper's side. The central defender started his career with Plymouth Argyle but got his big move by heading for Southampton in 2011.

With first team opportunities limited Stephens was shipped out on loan to a number of clubs including Swindon Town on two occasions and then Middlesbrough in 2015.

Unfortunately the centre-back was limited to just six appearances during his time at the Riverside, meaning that his spell with the club was fairly forgettable.

That said, it has't really hampered him.

Stephens is now a regular feature in the first team with Southampton as they continue to establish himself as one of the top flight's true dark horses.
