Huddersfield Town have seen a big overturn of players in the last couple of seasons, largely due to the face they find themselves adapting to life back in the Sky Bet Championship.

David Wagner winning promotion against the odds in 2016/17 sent Huddersfield on their way to the Premier League, with a fresh pool of opportunity to fish in with regard to transfers.

Relegation back into the Championship after two seasons now means that Huddersfield are finding their feet again, with Carlos Corberan eventually ending up overseeing the change from the dugout.

The squad available to him right now has seen a lot of change from the Premier League era.

Given that change, we’ve had a look back through the archives at Huddersfield, taking a view on a number of under-the-radar players that have passed through the door at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Here, we have a look at 11 you might have forgotten played for the club…

Hiwula is a much-travelled forward, who had a stint as a Huddersfield Town player between 2015 and 2018.

However, in that time, the forward managed to make just a single appearance for the Terriers.

That came as a substitute in a 2-1 defeat to Notts County in the League Cup back in August 2015.

Shortly afterwards Hiwula was shipped out on loan to Wigan Athletic, which was the first of four loan spells away from the John Smith’s Stadium.

After linking up with Walsall, Bradford and Fleetwood, Hiwula joined Coventry City on a permanent contract in 2018 and he’s now with Portsmouth.

The towering forward is currently on the books with Birmingham City and led the line for the Blues against Huddersfield in last week’s 1-1 draw.

Jutkiewicz did, though, have a spell as a Huddersfield player, albeit only on loan back in 2009.

At that point, he was on the books at Everton, who were sending him out on loan looking to build up his experience.

Either side of spells with Plymouth and Motherwell, Huddersfield got their hands on the striker.

He made only seven appearances for the Terriers and failed to score a goal, failing to have the impact he’s had elsewhere in England.

The current Leeds United captain will be forever remembered in another part of West Yorkshire for leading the Whites back into the Premier League.

However, before he’d pulled on a Leeds shirt, Cooper was on loan with Huddersfield from boyhood club, Hull City.

Back in 2011, the centre-back made seven appearances for the Terriers, featuring in League One, the League Cup and Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Cooper headed back to Hull after a short period, before moving on to Chesterfield, where he caught the eye of Leeds.

There, he’s earned the chance to play Premier League football, almost 10 years on from his spell with the Terriers.

Chilwell is best associated with passing through the Leicester City academy, before eventually joining Chelsea in the summer gone by.

However, he earned a few stripes out on loan in the Championship, having a spell with Huddersfield in 2015/16.

It was only brief, with Chilwell making seven starts for Huddersfield before heading back to Leicester.

Since then, he’s never looked back, establishing himself with the Foxes, breaking onto the scene with England and joining Chelsea.

The next step for the 24-year-old will be muscling his way into the England side for the European Championships in the coming summer, with an eye on the 2022 World Cup.

The bulk of Richards’ career has come in South Wales, with the defender playing for both Swansea City and Cardiff City.

As things stand, those spells with Swansea and Cardiff bookend his senior career.

Between then was a spell on loan with Huddersfield, with Richards making nine league appearances for the Terriers in 2013/14.

At that point he was on the books with Swansea, but left them in 2016 and joined Fulham.

However, before long, he was back in Wales and signing for Cardiff.

He left the Bluebirds last summer after 57 appearances for the club between 2016 and 2020.

Garner is another well-travelled striker to pass through the doors at Huddersfield earlier in his career.

In total, he’s scored 138 goals in his career, but never added to that tally during his time with the Terriers.

Back in 2010/11, Garner joined on loan from Nottingham Forest, starting 10 games in League One and failing to score in a total of 16 appearances. Zero goals also followed in other cup competitions.

Remarkably, after Garner’s loan with Huddersfield he joined Scunthorpe in the Championship and scored six times in 17 appearances.

Garner, now 32, is on the books with Wigan Athletic and is back plying his trade in League One.

Morrison captained Cardiff City at Huddersfield on Friday night, putting in a solid display for the Bluebirds as they held Corberan’s side to a goalless draw.

He’s become a stalwart in South Wales, making 272 appearances for Cardiff since arriving at the club from Reading.

His spell at the Madejski Stadium saw the centre-back struggle for real consistency, with the Royals loaning him out to Huddersfield a couple of times.

A run of 22 league and play-off starts for the Terriers between January and May in 2012 saw Morrison win promotion from League One.

It isn’t that he was poor for the club at all, but he’s best remembered for spells elsewhere.

Paterson scored against Huddersfield earlier this season, with Bristol City earning a 2-1 win at the John Smith’s Stadium thanks to the midfielder’s goal.

Scoring goals for Huddersfield was Paterson’s remit earlier in his career, with the midfielder bagging eight in 26 appearances whilst on loan from Nottingham Forest in 2015/16.

It isn’t that Paterson flopped at Huddersfield, but he’s just better known for his career with Forest, Bristol City and a brief spell at Derby County since leaving Walsall all those years ago.

The 29-year-old is still going strong in the Championship with Bristol City, but hasn’t actually scored since netting against Huddersfield.

Crooks is another midfielder that’s currently playing his football in the Championship.

The 27-year-old has scored six goals for Rotherham United and is a key part of Paul Warne’s squad that are looking to reel Huddersfield into a relegation fight in the Championship.

Crooks was actually born in Huddersfield and was a trainee at the club, but made just a single appearance for the Terriers and has been forced to build his career elsewhere.

Accrington and Northampton were kind to the midfielder, but with Rotherham in the Championship, Crooks is looking settled at this level now.

A lot like Paterson, Coady enjoyed a good spell at Huddersfield earlier in his career on loan.

However, the current Wolves captain and England international isn’t best remembered for his spell at the John Smith’s Stadium, largely because of what he’s gone on to achieve since then.

Yet, in 2014/15, Coady made 48 appearances for the Terriers on loan from Liverpool.

At that point, he was playing in midfield and was picked up by Wolves on the back of that loan spell.

There, he’s moved into a centre-back position, won promotion to the Premier League, played in the Europa League and become an England international.

Majewski is best remembered for his spell in England with Nottingham Forest.

The Polish midfielder scored 19 goals for the Reds and made well over 100 appearances during his time at the City Ground.

However, there was another spell in England, with Huddersfield signing the midfielder on loan from Forest in 2014/15.

He managed just three league starts for the Terriers, though, with a further five appearances coming from the bench in a spell to forget.

That would spell the end for Majewski in England, with the midfielder now 34 and most recently moving to Western Sydney.
