Burnley are looking on course to secure another season of Premier League football with Sean Dyche having managed to guide the club through a difficult start to the campaign to now looking likely to beat the drop once again.

It has been a remarkable last few years for the club with Burnley having even enjoyed two top ten finished in the last three seasons. The club have now been taken over and it will be interesting to see what sort of direction the new owners look to take it in, with more investment needed in the transfer market for Dyche to bring even more success to the job.

The Clarets have had a host of top players playing for them in recent seasons in what is one of their most successful periods in their history. While there have also been some excellent performers for them at many different stages down the years. However, what often gets forgotten are the less successful players who did not make much of an impression for their clubs.

With that in mind, we have put together a list of 11 players that you might have forgotten ever played for the Clarets…

One player who arrived at Turf Moor during the 2012/13 season as Sean Dyche transitioned into the job after Eddie Howe’s departure from Bournemouth was forward Alexander Kačaniklić who arrived on loan from Fulham in March 2013.

The winger managed to make six goalless appearances for the Clarets in what was a pretty unremarkable loan spell and the form of Burnley in the backend of the 2012/13 campaign did not help him make much of an impression.

He is now currently playing for Hajduk Split in Croatia after he finally left Fulham in 2016 going on to have spells in France and Sweden.

Another player who you would have been forgiven for forgetting spent time with Burnley is Shane Duffy, with the defender having arrived for a brief loan spell with the club in March 2011.

Duffy arrived on loan from Everton but would make just a signle appearance for the Clarets which came in a 2-1 defeat at home to Ipswich Town in April. He was dropped from the side after that game and then did not make another appearance before being sent back to his parent club at the end of the month.

The defender is currently with Celtic and has had impressive spells with the likes of Blackburn Rover and Brighton since leaving Everton.

Another player on this list who endured a not-so-successful spell with Burnley was forward Chris Long, who arrived at Turf Moor with a strong growing reputation after impressing during a loan spell with Branford from Everton in 2014/15.

However, the forward was never able to really win the trust of Dyche and he was limited to just 11 appearances in the 2015/16 season as the Clarets earned promotion back to the Premier League. That proved to be the end of his career with them and he has since gone on to have spells with the likes of Fleetwood Town and Blackpool and is now with Motherwell.

One player who might not have even been a contender for this list had he not suffered the miss fortune of a serious injury is defender Russell Anderson who arrived at Turf Moor on loan from Sunderland in August 2008.

Anderson managed to start the first four matches of the campaign, with the Clarets actually starting the season badly despite them going on to achieve a historic return to the Premier League that season. In a League Cup win against Fulham in September he suffered a cruciate ligament injury that ended his time at Turf Moor. He since had spells with Derby County and Aberdeen.

Another player who some might have forgotten about over the years is midfielder Mark Randall who spent some time with the Clarets on loan from Arsenal in the 2007/08 campaign.

Randall arrived on loan from the Gunners in January 2008 and managed to make ten appearances for the Clarets in the Championship before he returned to Arsenal. He has spent most of his career in the lower echelons of the Football League but is now with Northern Irish side Larne.

Another player you might have forgotten spent time in his career with the Clarets is goalkeeper Nicky Weaver, who never made an appearance for Burnley but was involved in their matchday squad on a number of occasions in the 2009/10 campaign.

The well-travelled keeper arrived at Turf Moor in January 2010 to try and provide some competition for number one Brian Jensen, with Diego Penny having failed to impress since his arrival in the summer of 2008. Weaver like at a lot of clubs in his career was the second choice for the club and left in May 2010 having not played a single minute.

Another highly forgettable player to make this list is forward Ryan Noble, who signed for the Clarets in the summer of 2013 as they desperately searched for some forward competition for Danny Ings and Sam Vokes with Charlie Austin being heavily linked with a move to QPR.

Austin eventually did leave the club that summer and that meant that Noble should have had some chances to impress, but he would make just one appearance in the league which came against Yeovil Town in a 2-0 win. He did come off the bench against West Ham in the League Cup before leaving in January 2014 and signing for Gateshead.

Another player who some Burnley fans might have forgotten about is midfielder Neil Wood who managed to make ten appearances for the Clarets during a loan spell from Manchester United in the 20003/04 campaign.

Wood arrived at Turf Moor in 2004 and did manage to score one goal for the club which came during a 5-3 defeat at home against Norwich City. He then returned to Old Trafford and was eventually released in 2006 and went on to sign for Blackpool.

Another player who spent a brief time on loan with Burnley during the 2003/04 campaign was Bradley Orr, with him arriving on loan from Newcastle United in 2004.

Orr went on to make just four appearances for the Clarets during his loan spell at Turf Moor and was not able to fully convince. He left Newcastle in the summer after his return from the Clarets and signed for Bristol City where he would enjoy a much better period making well over 200 appearances in six years.

Someone else who Burnley fans can be forgiven for having forgotten about is midfielder Amadou Sanokho who managed to spend an unremarkable spell with the Clarets during the 2004/05 campaign.

The midfielder managed to make just four appearances for Burnley that season and failed to make much of a positive impression and was mostly overlooked for other options in the middle of the park. He left Turf Moor in 2005 and signed for Oldham Athletic.

Another player who most Burnley fans have likely already forgotten is forward Karl Bermingham who spent a brief period on loan with the Clarets from Manchester City in the 2005/06 campaign.

However, he was able to make just four appearances during his loan spell with the club and eventually returned to Manchester City where he was released at the end of the campaign and then signed for Newry City.
