It has been a disastrous season for Sunderland with a second successive relegation looking a real possibility for the north east club.

Despite Chris Coleman’s appointment in November last year, the Black Cats have continued to struggle and are four points away from Barnsley in 21st, with the Tykes also having a game in hand.

However, no matter what happens until May, the summer needs to bring a massive clear-out at the Stadium of Light, even if the ownership issue isn’t resolved.

The likelihood is that Coleman is going to have a very restricted budget to work with yet he will still have to go about bringing an identity and culture to the club that fans can relate to.

One positive move would be to focus on young, hungry players who would be desperate to play for a club like Sunderland, with Bristol Rovers Ellis Harrison fitting the bill.

The 24-year old forward has had a good season for the Gas in the third tier, scoring 11 goals and assisting five in what has been a productive campaign.

He has the pace and power to give the Black Cats a real attacking edge that has often been missing this season.

Importantly, he has also played a lot of games in the Football League despite his relatively young age, which is something that many of the current side are lacking.

Ultimately, Sunderland need a major overhaul in the summer and players like Harrison could be the way to go.
