According to Alan Nixon, Newcastle United’s interest in Jacob Murphy is fading, with Rafa Benitez turning his attention to other targets.
Reports this morning have suggested that Newcastle are preparing a £10m bid for Liverpool’s Sheyi Ojo, which Nixon believes will have a direct impact on Benitez’s pursuit of Murphy.
Newcastle had a bid rejected for Murphy last week, with Norwich demanding more than the reported £8m that was offered by the Magpies.
Various other reports suggest that talks between Murphy and Newcastle are still taking place, but the winger, who scored ten goals for Norwich last season, is not expected to be short of options this summer.
At least four other Premier League clubs are keen on the Norwich man, including West Bromwich Albion, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Swansea City.
The 2016/17 campaign saw Murphy gain his first real taste of first-team football with Norwich, with the 22-year-old cementing his place in the Canaries’ squad following a string of impressive performances.
Murphy made 40 appearances for Norwich across all competitions last season, and his form saw him earn international recognition, as he represented England’s under-21 squad at the European Championships.
The 22-year-old made four appearances for Aidy Boothroyd’s side, helping England reach the semi-final.
