Marcelo Bielsa has suggested Brentford defender Pontus Jansson “deserves to be received in the right way” when he returns to Elland Road on Wednesday and many Whites fans appear to be in complete agreement.

Jansson left the club to join the Bees in the summer after featuring 120 times across three seasons for Leeds.

There have been differing reports over the motivation of his sale, with some suggesting Bielsa felt he was disruptive and others indicating it was due to financial fair play issues.

The centre-back returns to Elland Road for the first time since he left the club on Wednesday as his Brentford side face Leeds in the Championship.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the game, Bielsa suggested that the defender should be given a good reception by Whites fans.

According to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay, he said: “He deserves to be received in the right way. He was the best player of the team last year.

“He had a high level season and I appreciate what he gave. I think the fans will be fair and recognise what he did.”

Bielsa’s feelings on the matter appear to echo that of many Leeds fans as they were quick to respond in agreement on Twitter.
