It hasn't all been plain sailing for Jack Marriott at Derby County. He's had to be patient, biding his time and waiting for an opportunity to show what he can do.

He impressed at Peterborough last season, scoring goals for fun and represented a good investment in the summer. The 24-year old wasn't an immediate starter after switching to Pride Park though, his first six outings were from the bench.

He picked up his first start against Queens Park Rangers and marked the occasion with a goal. He kept his place against Sheffield United and bagged the winner.

Against West Brom he got his third start of the season and once again underlined his massive potential with an eye-catching display. That's why we're featuring him in another of our FLW spotlight pieces.

Marriott played 68 minutes of last night's game before being withdrawn for Mason Bennett. With The Rams 3-0 up, Frank Lampard clearly saw the striker as worth saving for the weekend's trip to Middlesbrough.

In that 68 minutes Marriott had scored a tenth minute opener and set up another of the goals which ultimately gave Derby the unassailable advantage. He took his personal tally to three goals from three starts, vindicating their decision to pluck him from League One.

He only got two shots away, three fewer than Tom Lawrence, but when your side is winning game 4-1 and you're scoring and assisting, the number of other shots you have is of little consequence. Besides, two shots and one goal is a good ratio.

Marriott is a robust centre forward who won't be bullied or intimidated and he committed two fouls himself.

Away from stealing the limelight in an attacking sense, he also proved his ability outside of the six-yard box. He made three key passes, an incredibly high amount and well above the average in the division. That is to say on three occasions he supplied a pass that led to a chance.

His passing all evening was excellent and he came out of the game with a remarkable 100% passing accuracy. That wouldn't be uncommon in a player with a ten minute cameo at the end of a game, but from 68 minutes of football against one of the divisions top sides?

It only serves to prove what a quality footballer Jack Marriott is.
