Reading have had an encouraging month or so that has seen them lose just once in their last ten matches.

On Wednesday night, the Royals managed to battle to a draw against Nottingham Forest, despite going behind with just ten minutes remaining.

The man who got the equalising goal was substitute Sam Baldock who came off the bench to fire an effort home from a tight angle.

It was an important goal for the Royals, and one that maintains that they're a tough side to beat since Mark Bowen took over in October.

Baldock's goal was excellent and all through his short period on the pitch he looked like having an impact as he came on with real bite and desire in the forward line.

He managed three shots in 16 minutes which is excellent and his goal was scored after he superbly jolted and held up the ball in the box before swivelling and striking past Samba.

This is a crucial confidence booster for the player who will be aiming to get the striker position in the team after Lucas Joao was confirmed to be out for three months. It's vital that Reading find a suitable replacement for the forward.

Baldock could be that man. Many thinks he works better in a front two, but he showed that the Royals didn't need to revamp the formation to play to his strengths last night.

As well as the goal he completed every dribble that he made in the match and despite it being late on in the fixture, Baldock was still able to get in behind the defence due to his work-rate and commitment to make a run every time the midfield had possession of the football.

It will be interesting to see whether the striker manages to start the next league game against a strong Bristol City side or whether George Puscas is preferred once again. With Joao's injury, it's important Reading carry on utilising the forwards and make sure that they play to their strengths and not focus on playing the same way they would if Joao was in the side.
