Luton Town finished their Sky Bet Championship season in 12th place after putting in some great performances under Nathan Jones this term and will be looking to build upon their strong form moving into the next campaign.

The Hatters are still very much in the process of re-establishing themselves at second tier level and will now undoubtedly be assessing their current squad, ahead of strengthening it in several key areas in preparation for looking to push on next year.

Some players will most likely depart this summer in order to facilitate this, with Luton sure to see a good degree of player turnover in pursuit of their long term objectives.

Various names will be linked with a move to the club over the coming weeks and months as the rumour mill kicks back into gear.

Here, we take a look at TEN transfer shockers that Luton Town will want to avoid repeating in the summer of 2021.

The pacey striker was hardly prolific during his time at Kenilworth Road and it could be argued that the Hatters missed out on the player's real prime years, with the frontman having gone on to achieve bigger and better things with the likes of Peterborough United and Derby County in the higher divisions of the EFL.

Marriott only bagged just eight goals during his final campaign with the Hatters before going on to hit 27 in his first for the Posh, which in turn saw him move onto the Rams the following season.

He has spent this season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.

A talented centre back who would go on to enjoy a good career, largely at Premier League level, Luton took the decision to cash in early on what was a young prospect after Upson broke through at Kenilworth Road and arguably could have held onto him for a bit longer in order to get a bigger fee.

The defender went on to join Arsenal before then embarking on a long spell with West Ham United, which would in turn lead to the player being called up by England on several occasions.

He last played for MK Dons before retiring in 2016.

The Hatters arguably overpaid a lot for Sluga when the goalkeeper arrived at the club a couple of years ago and as a result of this, he has been viewed as something of a flop by supporters, particularly after a shaky first season in English football.

He has since established himself as the club's number one keeper this term, but with only 12 clean sheets to his name, he is yet to hit the heights that were expected of him when he made the move to Luton.

Given his age, it is fair to say that the club overpaid for the shot stopper.

The powerful frontman spent a short spell with the club back in the 2010/11 season and quickly hit nine goals in 16 games before being allowed to depart for pastures new with Rochdale.

It can be argued that the Hatters failed to see the striker reach his full potential, as he then went on to take in emphatic spells with the likes of Macclesfield Town further down the line as he developed into a proven goalscorer at Conference level.

Barnes-Homer arguably never really fulfilled his potential, but if he had stayed at Kenilworth Road for longer, who knows what the two parties would have achieved together.

A player who hasn't really hit the heights expected of him thanks to a spate of injury problems, Galloway is yet to make any real impact at Kenilworth Road and still has a lot to prove once he re-finds his fitness and form.

Rated highly by MK Dons as a youngster, he got his big break in the Premier League with Everton but was largely unconvincing for the Toffees and ended up heading out on loan to the likes of West Brom and Sunderland over the years in search of regular first team football.

Given that the player is likely to be on a good salary, he is so far destined to be a flop if he doesn't manage to get back to full fitness.

Crow was brought into Luton as his powers as a footballer were gently failing and as a result, they rarely saw the striker hit top form during his time at Kenilworth Road.

Having carved out a good reputation for himself as a regular scorer in the Football League with Peterborough United, it was expected that the burly frontman would hit good heights for the Hatters when he joined them in non league.

However he only mustered nine goals as his best return during his two seasons with the club before going on to spend the majority of his final years as a professional at Newport County.

The Hatters brought the wiry striker to the club during the 2014/15 season before immediately loaning him out to Boreham Wood.

Angol then went on to hit 25 goals in 39 games for the non league side as he finished top scorer in the Conference South.

However upon returning to Kenilworth Road that summer, the frontman rejected a contract offer from Luton and as a result departed on a free transfer.

He has since taken in mixed spells with the likes of Peterborough United and Mansfield Town and now turns out for Leyton Orient in Sky Bet League Two.

The big target man was signed by the Kenilworth Road outfit following a prolific spell that he had with Gateshead in non league but largely failed to achieve the same feat during his time with the Hatters as he only found the net on seven occasions in two seasons.

As a result of this, the frontman returned to the North East with Gateshead and was most recently in action for South Shields as he continued to wind down his career.

Rarely prolific throughout the entirety of his career, Shaw just didn't live up to expectations during his time with Luton and has to deemed as a flop.

The frontman originally joined up with the Hatters during the 2008/09 season and failed to hit any good form for the club as he only found the net on just one occasion.

Since leaving the club, Henderson went on to take in a prolific spell with Rochdale and has become something of a nemesis to many Football League defences over the years.

Last summer, he swapped Spotland for the Peninsula Stadium and is fully focused on helping Salford City to make their way up the Football League after missing out on a play-off place in the Sky Bet League Town this term.

Green arrived at the club during a period in which he was expected to repay the Hatters with a solid amount of form, however after only one season, he departed for non league with Chelmsford City.

It was a real fall from grace for a player who had taken in successful spells in the past with the likes of Charlton Athletic and Dagenham and Redbridge.

Rarely prolific in terms of scoring goals and racking up assists, Green's stint at Kenilworth Road was short lived and was far from memorable and as a result of this, he could be considered a flop in some areas.
