Derby County failed to make the play-offs in a season where they were tipped as the league champions, and reached the summit on several occasions.

McClaren's side failed to reach the play-offs

But as a 3-0 home defeat to Reading drew the disappointing season to a close, it left Rams fans angry, but knowing that the team simply haven't been good enough all season.

The Rams simply failed to show up against Steve Clarke's Reading, and it was clear to see that the nerves got to the players - subsequently hindering their performance on the day

The question now on the lips of most Rams fans now is whether manager Steve McClaren will stay or go?

After two consecutibve seasons of failing to achieve promotion to the Barclays Premier League, you have to wonder whether his time at the iPro Stadium has come to an end.

56 goals conceded

Derby conceded on average 1.2 goals every game during the league campaign. Despite 17 clean sheets, the team have failed throughout the campaign to keep tight defensively.

3 appearances by Thorne

Derby's marquee signing and pivotal holding midfielder last season, George Thorne, has only played three times in the league due to injury. Would the team have done better with him in the side?

6 defensive partnerships

In the last 10 games of the season, Derby County has had 6 defensive partnerships with captain Richard Keogh being the only permanent fixture. A settled team is the key to a successful season, and the Rams just haven't had the luxury of naming a consistent side.

26 points lost at home

Home form is important for any promotion-chasing team but Derby have failed to take as many points as they should. With 7 draws and 4 disappointing losses, including a 2-1 defeat to rivals Nottingham Forest, the club needs to do more to ensure the home form is better.

15th highest shot takers

Derby registered only 601 shots last season, ranking them 15th in the league (the highest was Bournemouth with 767). Surprisingly, the Rams shot accuracy was the 3rd best in the league - if the players tried a few more shots they may have secured a few more wins!

25 defensive errors

Derby topped the league for the most defensive errors in the league, in front of relegated teams Blackpool, Wigan and Millwall.

10 game unbeaten run

The Rams managed a 10 game unbeaten run right at the very start of the season which saw them rocket to 1st place. But after this, the team failed to go on another unbeaten run stretching as long. The team managed 3 wins on-the-trot twice during the Christmas period - but that is as good as it got.

 11 players missing

In the crucial 10 games of the season, Derby at one point were missing up to 11 first team players including strikers Darren Bent and Chris Martin who have contributed over 30 goals during the season. Derby were having to use players out of position and from the youth team which hindered the sides consistency in the league.

24% of league missed by Martin

Missing almost a quarter of the season through injury, Derby have been hindered by the absence of Chris Martin. Its not only the 21 goals and 53 chances created that Martin contributed to the team, but its the focal point he brings to Derby's style of play that was missed.

1 summer defensive signing

The criticism of Derby in the 2013/2014 season was the lack of defensive depth they had in the squad. After losing on loan Andre Wisdom at the end of the season, Derby only invested in League One right back, Cyrus Christie. Although the club brought in Ryan Shotton, Raul Albentosa and Stephen Warnock throughout the season, they have not settled into the side and in some opinions of Derby fans, not improved the side.
